Op: what is the play on Roulette?
D1, SD1: Roulette is gambling. You can win or lose
Op: I agree with both of you but are there profits to make? Red or Black?

Think of it as an alternative asset that is inversely correlated to the performance of the economy.

The European Central Bank indicated they will resort to more monetary stimulus in September due to the economic outlook getting “worse and worse.”

Bitcoin’s value proposition is about to become painfully obvious to the world.

A decentralized, digital currency that can’t be manipulated or debased is even more valuable when central banks around the world are manipulating or debasing their currencies

No single individual(s) contain that much computing power. Now maybe a hostile-nation state could.... but that’s where my knowledge on this subject ends lol

It’s more of a gamble than an investment. It’s hard to say what the future holds for Bitcoin. As more crypto’s appear with more functionality and use cases, Bitcoin may loose value. Right now, Bitcoin has name recognition and is the most valuable crypto but there is better out there. But this is just my opinion, others may disagree.

Just my 2 cents as an owner of a single coin. Everything written about Bitcoin is entirely speculative. So as D1 said, it’s a gamble and I don’t really think there’s a quality studied opinion that can reliable.

I agree with both D1 and SD1 on the speculative nature of Bitcoin but do you think there are profits to be made still? What do you guys/gals think about a good entry point and time horizon for an exit?

There are absolutely still profits to be made. Buy is the play.

Hot take - aren't all investments gambles?

Well yes. Crypto is taxed like stocks & other types of property. When you sell for a profit, you are required to pay tax on the gains. It’s called capital gains tax.

Newly minted consultant here looking for financial advice.

So I just moved to consulting after B school, and It's more money than I've made my entire life. After paying for rent and living expenses, I have 6000$ left over every month. My student loan payments are about 1200/month at 7% interest. I still owe another 95K on my loan. I have the option to pay more every month and reduce my overall interest paid.
Currently I put about 3000 towards my loan and 3000 towards my savings. Cont'd...

$530k HHI, $250k cash on hand, $1.2M investments/retirement. Plan to buy $800-900k house as our first home, but thinking of the best approach given rates today. My thinking is that we (i) put $200k+ down and get a 5/1 ARM. (ii) put everything we save moving forward toward paying down the principal (after maximizing retirement accounts). Should be able to do $100k per year. (iii) If rates go down below 4.5ish % for 15 year fixed, refinance and stop aggressive payment. Thoughts on this approach?
