If there is actual bullying going on, gaslighting, manipulation, etc. I don’t find it scammy at all. That kind of toxic environment can really affect mental health. If the person has constant anxiety and depression and other things they are dealing with associated to the environment they are in and it is affecting their day to day life I hope they end up getting the disability and is able to separate. He could have just been using bad terminology with being “hooked up”. I have been in organizations that were VERY toxic and caused me to have very bad anxiety so I know that is a real thing and exists.
Mental health should be taken seriously. We have no idea what they are also dealing with in their personal life. A person with a very healthy upbringing can sometimes handle those situations better. I have also noticed people who participate in stirring the pot also handle those environments just fine. Some people thrive in a toxic environment and others do not. It is unfortunate that people don’t take it serious until one “unalives” themselves.
I would assume you need to go see a doctor, psychiatrist, or psychologist to get a diagnosis of PTSD, and then you should be able to get discharged. Good luck
You get intake assessments from Behavior Health professionals and military officer therapists. There is more to mental health than PTSD and PTSD is not only connected to a war/conflict. The military is trying and doing better to not create stigmas to going to get help. Individuals can still get ratings based on service related BH than just PTSD.
There is a battery of tests required prior to separation/retirement, including screenings for PTSD. There is no “hooking up” since the specialists do their own third party evaluations. As mentioned before, PTSD is not only due to combat injures but a whole set of issues and events that could be present in a toxic environment.
Worry more about your team and yourself and less on someone else’s accounts that came through the grape vine.
Disability ratings and diagnosis’s are determined by actual doctors. Those who developed these conditions in the service are entitled to not only the compensation but also the guaranteed treatment for those conditions after service. Whatever that airman has dealt with in service is his own business and no one else’s. Whether someone is drowning in 6ft versus 60ft of water, it’s still drowning.
Different Strokes for different folks. The Air Force was a new form of life for me. I was told about a job I was going to do and I scored and I was taught the job. The job was done in a in a professional way On a training unit In the sight of a training inspector My work was graded, Reviewed and complimented and corrected. I passed with a greater than regular score. I Went to work ,The next day.
Yeah. That would be my reaction as well. If this continues, those who actually have PTSD will not be taken seriously.
Make sure you consult a professional. Your discharge depends on your diagnosis. Best of luck!
