A good way to start might be to get relevant experience at the companies that implement the tech companies’ software.
Every big tech company has a really vibrant ecosystem behind them of agencies, SIs (Strategic Integrators), and consultancies. Your project management experience will be super relevant to them. It could be a good way to get in, learn more about an ecosystem, and build your career there or jump to the tech side.
I’ll be totally honest with you - there’s almost no chance you’ll get a role in tech directly as a Product Manager without prior Product background or strong product impacting work. You should target roles that tie extremely well with your background and then work to transfer internally.
Why don’t you look at an analytics Saas company?

-tableau
-MicroStrategy

All those companies would probably be closer aligned to your background.
Sounds like a good plan. I'll look into it today! Thanks!
Look into Salesforce - consider getting a certification in Salesforce analytics
Good idea... I could definitely finish up the analytics badge on trailhead. Thanks!!
You can look for positions in sales and PMP within tech. Maybe consider agencies like Creative Circle or others that can connect you with contractor roles to build your portfolio.
I was called out on why I even made the effort to get the PMP. Some hiring managers didn't see the benefit of it.
Sales side seems like a common theme in this thread. Thanks!
How far into tech are you trying to get into? I've been noticing that there's a fuzzy line between data analyst more technical data roles.
If you try to get hard into data analytics, then your business analytics won't hurt you. And if you are an SME on technical data analysis (think heavy SQL, Python, and more) then you may be able to work more on data-engineering light.
I'm looking for business strategy side for companies. The data engineering light side sounds like a good fit because I have some experience with SQL and R and also miss the SQL work.
I broke into tech from law. Hugeee jump! Totally worth it though. It sounds like you have a lot of great, transferable skills and I feel like tech companies are more open minded than most and appreciate people from different career backgrounds. So, look at it as a plus : )
Congratulations!! Hearing that gives me hope. Thanks!
Very good candidate for Sales Manager at tech!
Sales manager? I do feel a bit intimidated by sales but I know I can add a ton of value in sales process and sales strategy.
What do you think is needed to be successful as a sales manager?
Maybe something in fintech would be a good fit?
Fintech sounds good. I have been looking at fintech as product manager but definitely not easy to get an offer.
I do have a bit of coding skills in python, r and java. But I'm not practiced and never done it for an employer.
What roles do you think I should aim for?
Rising Star
Zero issues getting into sales but I had 1-2 certs (when those were rare) and a lot of hands on experience building and securing environments.
I also had my own points of view on the strengths and weaknesses of common approaches to security
I had plenty of offers even during a recession
Lol. G1 that isn’t sales.
O.P. Presenting isn’t selling, it’s presenting. If you want to move into tech I would first figure out what you want to do. Lots of options with your experience.
