Most people are literally one serious illness from wrecked credit in this country. I agree it shouldn't be used. Just another way to discriminate really.
I think it makes sense in our line of work, but a credit check doesn't dictate your ethics with money. Failing to make a payment on time could have happened for any reason.. why should that have an impact on you deserving work now?
Unsure what the business’ hiring practices are but it appears you didn’t pass their risk assessment that incorporates the Kressy Triangle (however it’s spelt). Youre getting reviewed for a position where you’ll be handling payments (opportunity). The company wants to reduce their exposure to motivational factors-your credit history.
I brought it up when I interviewed for a prior job. This was during the recession, and I fell behind on my mortgage and credit card bills from being unemployed. Being upfront about this stuff is best. Avoid surprises.
Someone's credit score doesn't show anything about their work ethics. Just like background checks. Most people have made mistakes that tends to haunt them for life so unless they are repeat offered or a very serious charge then it shouldn't make the decision to hire
Your credit score is none of anyone's business unless they're lending your money. Things happen beyond your control that impact your score and have zero to do with your ability to perform your job. People need to stop normalizing making every aspect of their life public knowledge.
I wouldnt hire you to touch money if you have a history of stealing money
I had over 800 score a year ago. but because I refinanced my house and had to use my credit cards for medical emergency. Being unemployed now I can only make the minimum payments which is pretty much paying the interest so the balance doesnt go down very fast, my ratio is at a high point, so now I'm in the high 600 on my score. I have never missed any Payments. The reporting system is just screwed up.
I had a job rescinded because my credit wasn't the best years ago.... it's quite common in the financial industry
It's really non of their business that an employer has to look at your credit. It's got nothing to do with the job your applying. Background check ok if it requires it.
