When I was growing up, a Nor’easter meant we were in for a “SNOW DAY!!”. A day of sled riding, snowball fights and watching TV to warm up afterwards.

This morning the email from the school district said “The school district is closing all buildings due to inclement weather. Students should follow standard synchronous remote learning procedures.”

I feel bad for these kids.

Side-note: One of my friends is an optometrist, and he says the number of kids coming in who have never had vision problems prior to remote learning has increased like ten-fold. Great for his business, but terrible for this next generation of kids. I really do feel for them too.

Very true! Snow days will be a relic of pre-Covid times

I bet it doesn’t. Hope it doesn’t! Distance learning has been a key requirement of districts this year, so they and the students are pretty well prepared for it. Five years from now, the technology will still be there, of course, but I don’t think everyone will be ready and equipped (including teacher’s lesson plans) to switch to school from home on a moment’s notice.

Like I said ... I hope so ...

I think it's about time the snow day practice ended. I don't get the day off when there's too much snow. Why should teachers?

If there's a safe alternative (remote learning) why shouldn't we use it.

(1/2) I started a new job less than a month ago at a large firm with a significant pay increase. I work remotely- which is a special arrangement. They paid for my travel to their headquarters for in-person training. After interacting with my manager and some of the attorneys, I feel like I made a mistake. Manager is demeaning and rude. A bunch of the attorneys dropped not so subtle hints that people who work from home are causing all kinds of problems. I don’t know what to do.

Do they provide cab facility in Pune location ? How is the wfh policy? Do they reimburse internet charges?

IEP, 504, and those without internet will return in-person next week while rest of students remain remote. They are saying it’s a liability issue if they have one student in the room with them, even though teaching other via Zoom. Thoughts? Anyone else experiencing this?

Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.

How are 1st year litigation associates dealing with WFH? I’ve been having terrible anxiety/panic attacks, and pretty sure my billables wont exceed 110 for April. I’ve been super stressed about it and don’t know how to move on to May with the proper mindset to make up for as much time missed as possible. CA courts are still closed, and I’m worried I won’t be able to exceed (or even meet) my May goal after April.

Hey Bowl,
I work for a late stage(ipo) start up, earlier this year we were acquired & since then they got rid of our yearly bonuses and gave us an ESOP grant.
2 RIFs later we are almost bare bones. Since we are coming up on our usual yearly evaluations many of us assumed (with multiple conversation from our managers) that pay raises and promotions were due.
In a recent All hands we found out that this year there will be no pay raises nor promotions based off merit. Is it time to jump ship?
