When I was initially hired for my job I was told that my schedule would be M-F, 8 hour shifts & I would never work weekends. 9 months later, my schedule was changed to M-Th AND Saturdays. Not working Saturdays was what drew me to this job. I am feeling burnt out as well b/c we are superbusy. Also, I had some changes in my personal life & I asked for Saturdays off again. The owner will not budge & change my hours. Furthermore she told me she is reducing her hours. Is there anything I can do?

Start setting boundaries. Remind your boss that in the beginning you were promised now weekends off and that you agreed believing it would be temporary. If you're feeling burnt out look elsewhere

Yeah I understand. This happens. They know that we want to be helpful or show initiative but I think that you can bring it back up and let her know that you wanted to be helpful at first but you would like weekends off again

I understand how frustrating it can be when there are sudden changes to our work schedules. It sounds like you were drawn to this job because of the promise of no weekends, so I can understand why you feel so burned out. I'm sorry to hear that the owner is not willing to budge despite your personal circumstances. I hope you can find a way to work out a better schedule that works for everyone.

Look for another job. Sounds like this is consistently going to be an issue and once you've started working weekends it's hard to go back

About to finish my first year. I’m a specialist. Only going to hit 65% of my hours (took a 4 week vacation cause of wedding/hm).

I never say no to work and i have fantastic reviews, and the head of my practice (with whom I work a lot for) has great things to say about me.

I’ve been fully utilized starting ~June, but first few months were slow. Am i fine?!

Should I take more initiative? It’s my stub year and I’m getting worried. My hours have been super low the past two months, I’m talking like maybe billing 3-4 hours a day and billing no hours on multiple days. I ask for work but the tasks I get don’t require a lot of time. Should I be reaching out more?

If a firm has multiple openings that you’re interested in, is it a good or bad idea to apply to more than one position? I’m a third year interested in retooling from lit to general corp, but they prefer someone with 3+ years of corporate experience. They’re also looking for an M&A with 1+ years, so it may be easier to aim for that, but I’ve heard horror stories re WLB for M&A. Would still try it out tho bc I’m desperate to leave lit, but don’t want to make a faux pas. Any insights appreciated!

Hadn’t noticed this sub before, and most of the threads are old so thought I’d ask a follow up - how has everyone been handling parenting with public accounting? I’ve got a toddler and my wife is an accountant (industry), and we only have a few immediate family in the country- but they have health concerns. Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

I know I'm in the minority here (and I swear this isn't a brag) but is anyone else less stressed this busy season working from home, and finding issues focusing because of it? My work is getting done, but just very very slowly. I'm able to sleep throughout the night and not wake up early (which is a huge negative right now) and literally feel no need to stay glued to my computer as in prior years. Am I broken?
