This feels like a dumb question. If an employer asks for your salary requirement and you give them a number…and it’s less than they were planning on paying for the role…does that run the risk that then they’ll hire you for that when you could’ve made more? They’re getting a bargain and you’ll never know you could have made more?! I’m kind of starting at the bottom by making a career change to HR. I have a minimum I have to make-equal to my current pay. But why wouldn’t I want a raise?!

I’d never heard of this before and figured it’d be helpful for anyone considering leaving or just trying to get some interview practice in.

Could someone kindly give me an idea so I know I get the salary I deserve?, this job is based in NYC.
