Over the past 3years I’ve been structuring my portfolio in order to generate passive income. Leveraging the strategies discussed in the Bogleheads series of investing books, and common sense investing by Jack bogle, I have been able to obtain ~11% yoy holding diverse index funds, ETFs, and stocks of companies that issue regular dividends. With my portfolio now at~500K, I’m on track to have earned approx about 50+K in passive income.

like

11%?? That’s below boring index funds in recent years (since we’re counting appreciation as cash flow, apparently) and on par w run-of-the-mill REITs (that would provide actual cash flow).

Echoing the sentiments here, but I don’t think this strategy is as successful as you think, especially once your time is accounted for...

I've built a really successful outcome source by following a simple investing strategy for the stock market: buy high, sell low.
It may be not the best but it perfectly drains all my resources as expected 🙌🏻

We saw a huge amount of success this year in AirBNB. Before this year we've done 3 other long-term rental properties but wanted to take a gamble. It was scary AF. The property we found would have had a cap rate of 5% and would have cash flowed just barely, enough that it was a good backup plan.

We through it up on AirBNB before we had any furniture and with only a few photos of the place. We had bookings come in instantly which gave us enough confidence to furnish the entire home. We had estimated the home would do 80k/yr on AirBNB but instead we think we'll hit 150k/yr.

I'm a YouTuber on the side, and in 2021 my subscriber base and my income have grown about 25%. If I had more time to devote to it, I'd get more projects completed faster and thus more videos/views/income.

Being a youtuber is not a passive income, though. You need to script a bit the videos, record them, edit them, understand which fanbase you are creating and create suitable content. It can definitely be a good side hustle but not an actual passive income as OP asked

Hi all, I have a question regarding retirement accounts. I am not sure if I should choose a Roth or 401k (company has 4+2% match). Currently 23, base salary is ~100k and investments have brought 45k this year which has me teetering between a 22-24% tax bracket. Wondering what the usual tax bracket is of people retired (around 65yo) as I’m not sure anything would bring in significant income with the exception of investments. In my case would a Roth make sense? Appreciate any answers!!

I just left my pre-seed startup that was running out of cash (we made $100,000 in revenue this year, and sunk $1m in costs). I was making $40,000 as a developer (plus 20k stock options at $1/share per year) and they refused to pay me any more money. I have 17,000 vested stock options, total number of shares at the time of my contract was 4million. I’m a bit confused about share dilution and if it’s worth it for me to buy some of my stock options… thanks in adv!

Hi everyone, I work at an early stage start up that just closed our round A. I just hired a director below me, however when it was time to come up with an offer I was removed from the conversation. The CO-founders said they’d handle the actual offer amount/equity. I joined early so salary is low but I have decent equity. Not sure if they didn’t want me seeing the offer or if this is normal for early start ups.

If you join a seed stage start up just prior to Series A in a CEO minus 1 role (e.g. COO or Chief of Staff), can anyone speak to a framework / key considerations for comp expectations in terms of cash vs. equity?
