That’s not low at all considering all the firms out there. Different sizes, prestige levels, clients, etc
I made $102k base at EY as a Senior 2. This was after 10 years of experience outside consulting. Made $124k when promoted to manager. Not as sexy for the amount of work I was putting in. So I left for more money in industry.
EY2 - the money made it an easy decision to leave. No brainer. But, I do miss some parts of consulting.
Dirty secret: most firms pay terribly but we only talk about the top paying ones on fb
“Senior consultant” can include a wide array of jobs/industries...I would look at senior consultant in the context of a particular company or industry and you’ll see more accurate figures.
LOL @ 90k being called “low”
Some of y’all need perspective. 90k for one person is almost 150% of *median* *household* income in the USA.
AP1, this is literally a forum for consultants. No one is saying 90k isn't good money in aggregate, but it is absolutely low for the type of work most of the people on this forum do at the level indicated...seems like you may be in the wrong place if that reality makes you so angry.
Hell even at Deloitte, it can be a huge range. I know SCs making 84k and I know others making 120
I mentored a person who just got hired at a boutique at the SC level (18 mos out of state school) who got 130/15%. That's more than I made as manager (Big4) in 2017, a bit less (different Big4) in 2018.
Pro
When I worked at WMP the avg salary for SC was ~$85-90k. I was on the high end at $120k with an MBA. That said, I don’t think this is too far off from being the case with the base being closer to high 80s.
Pro
Avg SC at WMP is ~107 🤷🏻♂️
1) there's a long tail in the industry + corporate jobs that have titles like SC
2) Lots of specific practices (e.g., risk advisory at the accounting firms) where comp is lower
Which is why it never helps to talk in broad burbs strokes. It's like saying "go into tech, it pays well". No, certain positions and certain companies pay well in tech. Same deal for "consulting" which ranges from audit/controls to strategy.
I keep getting email from Glassdoor saying that I should be making $115k based on some stupid algorithm and it included links to jobs that pay that much. It makes me laugh each time I get them.
Doesn't bother me. Now if someone with my company/title/geo was making 2x what I make, that would make me upset.
Is this for one firm in specific? If not, salaries for SCs (or any position) can vary greatly 1. Because titles and responsibilities aren’t consistent across all firms (at Deloitte an SC has ~5 YOE, other places could be way lower or higher). 2. Small and boutique firms are a thing, it’s not all MBB, T2, and B4 firms with more cash on hand.
I tried to just do it by the entire US, not firm specific. This is showing NYC but it’s pretty similar across all cities
Also SC salaries have increased across the board in the last ~2 years in most firms. Glassdoor data points do not exclude older #s. Hence the bias towards lower #s.

Who cares what Glassdoor says for super generic “senior consultant” title?
8 years of exp and 4 years of industry experience before that. Clocking in at 115k. Always feel pretty dismal about it.
First year senior in EY PAS, I make 95k
2nd year senior in EYP in NYC making ~120k, probably would be closer to ~105k had I stayed in regular EY advisory/consulting. If I had an MBA I’d be making like 150... sad stuff.
There may be a slight difference in quality between MBA and non-MBA but certainly not 50k difference IMO
I joined Deloitte in Boston from a rural state -- starting salary as a C was 93k. Most I ever made. Making six figures today. Not making as much as my peers but put it into perspective that I'm making more than the median income of most Americans.
I'm fortunate.
If your home grown it’s true. Might even be a little higher.
125k!
Management consulted salary reporting is much better for comparing offers if you're looking at Sr. Consultant roles after MBA https://managementconsulted.com/consultant-salary/

I had maybe 1-2 years of legit consulting exp and came in at $115 as a SC lol. Clearly the “standard” of “low” is subjective.
