Work for Home... Before Work from Home

Hi all, I just finished my recruiter phone interview today for “Risk Prevention Escalations Specialist, Global Risk Operations” role and it went well. I have an interview on Friday with the hiring manager. Does anyone know what kind of questions they’ll be asking? I only have 2 days to prep..

I laugh when people say they can’t save money. Seriously. When me and my wife got married, our household combined income was less than $100,000. Today, neither of us has a six-figure income. Yet in the 20 years we have been together (married 17); our house is paid off, I grew my wife’s retirement (work) account to seven figures and already have 2 years of college saved up (local instate tuition that is). Our retirement contribution are at 15% for me and 17% for my wife (only because she company has a pretty fantastic money manager - hence the seven figures in 20 years). Even while able to save, we still take 4-5 vacations a year. And no, we don’t have any side incomes supplement our spending. We do have investments but all our our capital gains are invested back in. I don’t use my investment gains for toys.
To the person who posted about no college debt must have graduated before 1990--i started college in 1991.. when I graduated 5 years later I was debt free. I paid out of pocket. Some semesters I could only afford 3 classes so it took a bit longer. You can save if you choose to live within your means. Can you survive on one vehicle, find a cheaper insurance, cut down on nights out, and you have to do research on child care. Child care is expensive, but if you do research you can find a good person/school/daycare at a decent price. If there is something you want save for it instead of putting it on a credit card. Try living in a smaller space to save money. There are always ways to save if we are willing to make the necessary adjustments to get what we need.
Or you can go the faster route of robbing a bank. Then living and meals will be free. Ijs
My daycare is $2400/mo in a place where that’s more than double most mortgages, so yeah. I feel this.

Public school is free (or more correctly supported through taxes). Some areas may charge for full day kindergarten.
If you spend within your means, you will always be fine. If you spend on frivolous items, it's no wonder you aren't saving.
ASM1, so simplistic, unhelpful, and judgmental. What we’ve seen across the country are people who are struggling who don’t spend frivolously. It’s expensive to be poor and there are few left who are truly middle class.
Your observation doesn’t address when one’s means are insufficient to cover necessary expenses: the working poor? Or folks who have budget breaking medical bills? Truly it’s not uncommon for parents to “work for healthcare benefits” when it takes one salary to cover the childcare and insurance costs.

It’s hard because it doesn’t sound like you have a specific purpose for the money you’d be saving, thus you just spend it.
You would never spend the $300 a month in the 529 plan because there’s a specific plan.
If you want more, determine why you want to save it
Same here.
Same boat. $200k+ income in MCOL area. 4 kids and we feel broke. Ha!
Well duh. If you are smart with your money. You should only spend what you need to spend. Carry as much cash as you need to cover those bills and then a little extra for cushion. And then move the rest to retirement or a brokerage account. I swear the more you make the more your mutual funds/stocks goes up. Not necessarily your quality of life
Make a budget and a reverse budget (look at the last few months to categorize where you spent money). Food is an easy thing to save on. I went from a high US salary to a low European salary and had to live month to month for about a year. While I was so stressed that year, it taught me that I was so fiscally irresponsible. Now I make about $150k/year and still spend as if I make 60k. Still travel the world, go on vacations for 6 weeks a year, and have nice things. But it took cutting a lot of waste to get there.
That's cause you're boojie, making less than 100k a year and saving 1800 a month. On a more serious note...you are aware that you're probably saving a quater of your income with most of it going to retirement.
Living in NY? I’m in the same boat I have basically doubled my income in the last three years but feel like I have little to no extra cash.
I could’ve written this…my husband and I make just over $200k together but with buying an old (small) house that needs a lot of work, trying to save 15% each for retirement and daycare it’s tough to do it all. We have baby #2 coming in a couple months and then our daycare will be almost $3k/month 🤯 we’ll probably have to reduce our retirement savings closer to 10% for a couple years til I have one in kindergarten. And we do not live in a HCOL area but we’re also not in a super LCOL.
So...whatever tax bracket you are in...who exactly is really saving right now...seriously. EVERYTHING IS RISING....gas to get to work...food to survive to get to work....daycare so the kids can survive and you can go to work....mortgage/rent for shelter to get some rest and family time just to go back to work.....I mean you all know where I'm going here....work gives a little bump in income to pay towards the skyrocketing price of everything else. When will incomes ever catch up??
Get your parents to come help you guys
Pay yourself first. Every month when you get your pay check , save a portion to saving or put it into investment account first(make it automatically deducted). Then plan your spending on top of that. In that way you force yourself to save. If you pay day care, cut cost on other things. People may say, saving is cheap why not make more. But if you don't do this automatic saving first, you just gonna spend whatever you make.
$200k each or combined? A few years back (3-4), my wife and I made about $170K combined and paid $24k a year in daycare. Pretty much her salary went to daycare.. i was the main source of income for everything. We still bought a house, couple of cRs, saved 10% a paycheck for retirement.
Because child care is exorbitant. Not too long ago I had twins in day care and it cost us $4K/mo.
Op is already saving $40k / year.
That he can’t save more is a spending issue, even in HCOL
Pay with Daycare through a Flexible Spending Account to save on the taxes
ISA 1–they don’t. Here in Raleigh women quit working to raise kids. And we’re talking about full time careers in teaching or similar because they will be in a deficit from paying for daycare. It’s a step back in women’s progress and tangibly affects the workforce.
