They 100% give POC more comments, usually comments that are immaterial. The worst part is that they don't see it even when you point it out.
Just tune them out. I only tune in if there is cash involved. 🤑
Your example is the partner giving you feedback so you know what to do in the future. You said it was your first call and you engaged in a behavior the partner didn’t want you to, so he told you. Being coachable and learning from feedback is part of practicing law. If the partner didn’t care about your professional development, they wouldn’t have given you any feedback at all. It would’ve come up in your review that you don’t know how to navigate relationships as an associate and you’d be pushed out.
I am a POC and I would have told a non POC associate the same thing.
Right, what is wrong with being transparent that you’re stepping in for someone else?
