Will PWC hire someone in tax that isn’t eligible to sit for the cpa exam? I noticed that just about all of their listings mention that you need to be “eligible to sit per state requirements” but does anyone know this for a fact? I have more than enough credits to meet the 150 but am missing several accounting courses I would need to qualify in my state. I could take the exam in Alaska and transfer it over in theory, but I doubt most recruiters would go for that idea.

You can audit courses or consider an MST. PwC will help with the MST tuition. I wouldn’t not apply just because you’re not currently eligible.

I know people that took the exam for Alaska and transferred to the state they’re in (VA) and it worked out for them!

They'll hire you. But to get promoted to manager you need either a CPA, pass a state bar, or become an EA

I guess it’s worth asking a recruiter, I know many firms are very strict about being eligible to sit for the exam upon hire.

EA works as well.
DM me for a referral! Happy to help

I work with someone who got their original license in AK and then got a reciprocal license for their state of residence. YMMV.

This also worked for me - I had 150 hours but didn’t meet the accounting hours requirement for my state so I got licensed in NJ and just finished the process of getting a reciprocal license for my state.

It’s totally doable to apply in one state and then transfer one passed. You don’t need to ask the recruiter, you just apply through the state you are eligible

Friend introduced me to a poc at a role I’d potentially be interested in, but background check would take 6-12 months. Just got promotion at current firm and feeling content to stay. I’d be interested in the other company in the near future, ie 1-2 years.

If I didn’t directly know the person, I’d interview to see how I do, but I don’t want to waste this person’s time for the time being. What would you do?
