Is capital one a good place to consider being a product manager? I’m desperately trying to exit a toxic work environment and I’m evaluating a capital one offer versus one from a rental app startup . Salary is super close for both but want to make sure I don’t run to the wrong company in an attempt to escape my current one Capital One

I recently interviewed with MITRE for a systems engineering role to make the move from Leidos where I feel underpaid for the work I do and for my experience ($85K). I have 4 YOE, a STEM degree, and soon will have a Masters Degree. I’m looking to make around $120K in the new role at Mitre. Does anyone have any insight into comp there? This would be in the DC metro area. Does $120K seem reasonable or am I dreaming?

Please evaluate this initial offer for Apple ICT3. I think I was low balled, but I want to take more opinions. Currently Sr. MTS at VMware, received Apple ICT3. I was expecting to get to ICT4 but seems like team thinks upper end of ICT3 is more apt. Also, I think it is because I don’t have any counter offers yet.

I recently went through something similar and I used chatGPT to help me determine if it was the right move. I asked it to calculate the average cost of commuting (gas, tolls, car maintenance, coffee, lunches, etc) over a year to see how much of my salary was going towards commuting. I gave it my current salary, expected salary. I compared benefits. And got a complete picture of the differences. I ultimately chose to leave. I’ve been at my remote job for a month and it was definitely the right move for me. If you can afford it and it makes sense for your lifestyle/career aspirations, I would seriously consider it. I do not, for even one minute, miss being in the office.
Don't forget that you might be dropped to a lower tax bracket.
I am more productive when I work from home 👀
Same !!! 100%
No. Especially since companies save upwards of 40% more because of remote workers. So I should be getting paid more honestly.
This is bizarre. If for anything, working remote gives the employer best bang for their buck as the employee productivity goes up significantly
At my current salary no. But if I made a lot more, yes.
No. 30% is a lot at my current salary and even though I am more productive at home, remote work gets boring after a while. I don’t mind going to office for 2-3 hours twice a week as long as I am living 15 mins from office.
the key point here is 2-3 hours in the office, not 8. having some social interaction with people for a few hours twice a week isn't too bad. being forced into an office 3 days a week for 8 hours is
The cost of commuting to a job is basically the same whether you make 60K or 600K so the percentage shouldn't be the same.
Yes, but your salary also takes Time into consideration, so a 3 hour commute is time you can't spend with your family or friends and you aren't paid for it either.
Time is our most precious resource and while in traffic you also inhale all those particles and gasses.
What is the justification for a 30% reduction in pay?
Is the expectation be that the individual will be 30% less productive? If so, why would an employer want someone who is 30% less productive?
Or is the thought that the administrative/infrastructure load would be 30% more if an individual works from home? Wouldn't any overhead associated with an employee be reduced if they worked remote? And If the issue is being able to trust an individual to be productive, I would ask why would a company hire someone they did not trust In the first place?
No, the work is the same sometimes even more. It’s absurd companies want to even do pay cuts for remote. During that time your work will increase. Remote work is not punishment. If you like working remote find a company that aligns. Remote is not a new concept.
Different aspects of life are gained when you're remote, from the quality of life that your children experience first hand instead of passing the job off to someone else who isn't Mom or Dad
HELLO 👋
No way. I worked in office for 12+ years and once I went remote I only earned more. If I was in a pickle and needed remote or a job then sure, I would take the pay cut. But honestly, if you are in office or remote the pay should not change. I, and most of the people I work with, are far more productive remotely. My employer treats us like adults and trusts us to get our job done. I make more now than I ever have in the past.
If the job can be done successfully remotely then why does it involve a 30% pay cut? A remote employee costs less and the work they are doing creates the same value, therefore their value remains the same. I wouldn’t accept any role where an employer was asking me to accept a salary less than my value and I think this kind of behaviour should be strongly discouraged.
We get paid for our skills
If no need for skills then we won’t be approached
Remote job cuts expenses from both side
Saving in employee side is nothing compared to the saving in other side
No I would not. If I am working from home the company is saving in overhead costs. They do not need to provide me with anything more than a computer as I am providing everything else I need to do my job. In addition I am more productive when I work from home and more willing to work extra hours if needed. There is no reason to pay less from remote work then foe on-site work.
They should be offering you a raise. Working from home requires an intrinsic awareness of self and less management. Companies have both of these things backwards. You should be paid more.
30% heck no, I'm saving my employer money on rent/facilities/materials/food & drink- if anything they should be giving remote workers a stipend :)
💯
I think these things should be formulated in a more positive way. Instead of taking a pay cut if the job is remote, the job should give a 30% raise for every day they require presence at the office. That way they compensate for the times commuting and other opportunity costs of having to deal with in-office work.
nope give me that 30%. see you in the office .. using your AC, HEAT, Electricity, gonna turn mine way back down, no one even home all day, hey make sure the company kitchen well stocked with free coffee and treats .. See ya on Monday !
Sure thing if it is going to provide sustenance to my sons
I could make more at other companies but that would involve probably 3 hours of commuting a day. I have a young son and my time with him is much more important.
In a heartbeat. Saving the commute costs and all that "Hurry, hury" stuff.
Around here, what I noticed is that leadership wants their executive leadership close to corporate so they can be at the office. Not necessarily the individual contributors.
