Additional Posts in Ask A Recruiter - Advertising
Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones?

If you’re employed by a holding company, the severance is boilerplate. If you try to negotiate, it means their lawyers have to get involved, which is expensive. So, they’ll likely say “no” without even considering your offer. Unfortunately, you have very little leverage. Also keep in mind that there are only 5 big holding companies in the industry and it’s quite likely you’ll work for them again in your career. The last thing you want is to be blacklisted for being “difficult.” Stranger things have happened!
Bridging pay (severance), extending health benefits past whatever they offered in separation agreement — basically having them cover cost of cobra for an extra x amount of months + if there is language in agreement you dont want to agree to you can ask to have it removed (they probably won’t but it doesn’t hurt to ask). You can pretty much try and negotiate anything but you are more likely to have success if you are reasonable in your asks. Good luck! 🤞🏻
