I know how to google :) but would love this groups view: how did you think about engagement ring cost? I know the old “x months salary” framing but would just benefit from hearing what others did. For context, my tc is about 250k. Partner and I don’t have a ton of $ though due to big focus on paying down loans till last year. So, doing ok but not swimming in disposable cash.

While recognizing this is probably different from firm to firm: Can someone explain Partner credits (billing, originating, managing) and how that impacts Partner salary? For instance, if three different people each account for 100% of the credit on one matter that’s brought in $1mil, what might their salary look like? For clarity - Person A gets 100% of billing credit, Person B gets 100% originating credit, and Person C gets 100% managing credit.

At big4 does the partner(s) interview us decide the offer salary and bonus? Will they know if you negotiate?

Seems obvious to me yet i still must ask to hear out the trade offs…. Non equity tech MD at a specialty business unit at MBB, or MD at a leading system integrator with public equity and significant total compensation increase? Feels like being a true MD and no second rate citizen status supersedes the MBB brand name if you’re not partner track.

Current gig - FDD M2 - will get promoted this year. In a really good group with great people and partner. Pay sucks.

Potential opps:
-ACN M&A strat - Manager - base is at market and substantial pay raise (50+%) with nice sign on bonus. Perf Bonus is likely 10-13%. Currently have offer

-A&M PEPI CFO Services - way smaller base than ACN but crazy TC upside with utilization bonus. Still in interview process. WLB will take a big hit.

What would you choose?

Had an initial phone screening/interview with my dream firm. I’m not sure how it went. There were some good, some bad (or at least I think) parts. I was referred by a partner and this is my first time phone screening and was expecting a lot more questions. I was asked a couple “tell me about” questions and then went into salary expectations and open to relocating. How much weight do they put into the phone screen and is it normal to wonder how they went?

Horrible anxiety about considering a new job....
I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon? How do you tell them when the managing partner took you under his wing?

What does the title “client partner” mean — seen mostly in WITCH. Is this junior partner type role/ responsibility/ comp? Similar to Principal/ Senior Director/ Associate Partner?

What is Kearney first year partner comp like?

Can someone tell my why attorneys and partners of accounting firms making $500k per year all live in a $400k house and drive a Ford? Is it a cultural thing? Everyone making that kind of money in corporate finance seems to be living large. Genuinely curious if I’m miss-judging the lifestyle associated with partner compensation.

How would you split finances in this situation - Partner A is fully paying for the mortgage, has a job secured with 100k salary. Partner B will be living in the apartment, is currently unemployed and will likely end up with a low-paying retail job or internship

What is the first year TC of a Big 4 London partner in the UK? I’ve read that the average salary is c. 700k but surely that’s what equity partners make after 7 years of becoming a partner. Curious what level they start at

What is a typical first year partner salary at EYP? What is it typically 5 years out? What is minimum time required to be a partner to realize benefits?

Those of you that have gone part time at a big law form or that went senior counsel rather than partner track, what is your comp like? I genuinely have no interest in making partner. I love my work, but I’d also love to have more time back. I’m just curious what it is like for you all financially. Thanks!

PMDs: what’s year 1 ACN MD TC? How would an ACN MD comp trajectory compare with a B4 Partner trajectory 5 yrs down the road? What are the pros and cons of both?

Been looking for B4 exit opportunities, but when I find opportunities I always start 2nd guessing myself on whether to leave. Then if I pass on a opportunity (because comp / role isn’t a fit or they pass on me), I feel defeated and keep thinking “can’t wait to leave.” Ultimately, while I think I could make Partner at B4, I really don’t want the “always on call” and daily grind that comes with it. Anyone else have this inner conflict that feels like a lose-lose?

PMD 🐠: looking for entry level Partner comp comparison at Oliver Wyman vs B4 vs MBB. Can you pls share broad benchmarks and any qual insights / pros - cons. Background: I’m currently B4 SM and going to promote to D in 12 months. Have reasonable senior cover/ sponsorship but is the track to Partner super clear - prob not. High performer but lagging in trajectory (part COVID/ part politics). Hence evaluating options and planning my next move/ optimising for my next 5 yrs. thanks 🙏

I’m super curious to know how much big law partners make and how they are paid (salary and distribution?). Some of the profits per partner are insane but I figure it is not an even split.

What’s a median / mean yearly partner compensation over years 1 - 5? Debating leaving. I’ve heard stuff all over the sun and a reasonably reliable number would be nice. Not looking for outliers or someone who is ultra senior. Plain new meeting expectations partner pay.

Partner asked me if I could help with a pitch. I said “yes but won’t be able to finish as I’m approaching project closing next week”. She said that’s OK I’ll find somebody else to finish. Final feedback from RT: “he does not finish work he starts”. And given this was the only partner I worked with this year. This was the final verdict. I’m worried how it will reflect on raise and bonus although all reviews are flawless.

For those who negotiated salary when getting promoted, what was your approach?Did you have another offer? How did you come up with comparable position salary and how did you communicate this to Partner during comp call?

I am a L2 up for IC role which I am optimistic about getting.
I am sincerely worried that the typical raise this year will not take into account inflation from stimulus and price increases. Focusing on salary only, switching firms seems like a no brainer unless salary match

Has anyone gone from working on the client side of Workday over to the partner/ implementation side? Was that a difficult transition? Care to share the pros/cons and salary differences?

6th year attorney here. Will be seeking a raise. We are a small firm with steady billable litigation work. An associate just left, who we won’t be replacing, freeing up their entire amount of salary plus insurance costs etc. I’m currently just below $100k/year plus a $10k Christmas bonus. I am the senior associate. All cases go through me before going to the partner. We have good work/life balance. Anyone care to help by sharing their compensation? What is average for my situation?

I’m a senior associate at an Amlaw100 firm in a specialty group. The vast majority of what we do is compliance, with a deal sprinkled in once in a while. Thinking of lateraling to an Amlaw 30 firm because the comp gap is enormous. I’m solidly on partner track at my firm - next 2 years or so - but the pay at the other firm is higher than the junior partner at my firm. New role would involve significantly more deal work. Any insights on lifestyle changes going to a specialty deal support position?

What’s the base salary for Partner 1 (one level below MDP) at BCG?

6th year corporate associate at a regional firm and debating between the following options: 1) Staying at my current firm and making partner in about two years. I know I will make partner if I stay. 1800 Billables. I like the idea of being about to bring in clients and see my compensation rise by my own efforts though I realize it's stressful. 2) Switching to a larger firm to increase my compensation for a couple of years. 3) Going in house because I hate the stress of billables. Any thoughts ?

Ok I cannot be the only one thinking this but I'll be the one to ask -
While I'll acknowledge that mbb has better talent are you trying to tell me that a 30 year old partner is bringing in more value than a 50 year old partner at t3?
If not why is there such an insane gap in the compensation.

Hey fish - any insights in the comp package for a 1st year EYP Partner?

Would you rather...be a non-equity partner making 650k (3M+ PPP firm) or an equity partner making 400k (<1M PPP firm)?

(Bonus Q: or that one Jones Day associate who was sketchily making 800k)

I recently gave my small firm notice that I am leaving and moving to another state. I mentioned that I am considering starting my own practice in the new area, and the managing partner suggested that I transition to an “of counsel” position at a 1099 hourly rate (remote) while I got started. I thought the rate was a bit low, but I’m not sure what to compare it to. Anybody have any experience with these arrangements? Any advice on how to structure? Or if it’s worth it? Any input is appreciated.

Completed all rounds of PWC interview until partner for a Manager position. I guess it went well. Most likely up for promotion this mid year at current firm. Should I leave my comfortable position at Accenture and venture out for a possible significant bump in salary ? What am I possibly getting myself into.I am also on H1b.

My partner is in sales in the travel industry and has been looking to pivot into media sales with a small publication. Any insight into comp structures for someone with 5-7 years sales experience with about a year in media sales?
