Second year Associate (9 YOE/MBA)

Offered a Director of Strategy role in a fun and fast growing industry (think media/tech/entertainment). Total compensation is $260K (180K base, rest is RSU and bonus)

Currently I am up for EM in ~6 months and TC is ~$220. I’m not excited by my current job, but I don’t hate it either.

I think the new opportunity is in an exciting space but not sure if I’m doing the right thing by leaving at this point of my tenure (not interested in becoming a Partner) Help?

What does partner comp look like at a top 200 firm vs a top 20 firm?

Considering an opportunity as a Business Partner with an analytics group at a cyber security company in the valley. Current Manager at Big4. Would represent a step up in total comp but wondering if it’s viewed as a step backwards in career progression?

Thoughts on business partner procurement role at Google: Is this a good exit opportunity for an EM? What’s the total comp? Any experience interviewing/getting an offer for this role?

First year M&A associate. I never came into big law wanting /expecting to gun or make partner, and first year pretty much confirmed that. I'm more than happy to leave for in house in 4-6 years and live a much more chill life. Knowing this, what is the best way to max out the $'s? I'm thinking of considering auto-lateral at year 2/3 and again at 4/5 just for the signing bonus (I know things may change and maybe I wouldn't do it if I loved my firm or got an in house job), but is this viable?

Currently in the US but interviewing for a UK-based firm and role. The comp level they are throwing around is £250k TC. Is this reasonable for a Director-level role with 12 YOE?

My comparator would be wait 18-24mo to become a consulting partner - in the US that starts at $450k/£325k.

For the purposes of this question, assume I’m optimizing for initial comp, not long term potential, and not livability, Intl experience, WLB, CoL etc.

Interviewing at McKinsey from a big 4 consulting firm - currently an engagement manager interviewing for an engagement manager role on the partner track - comp at big 4 is currently $165k base, what’s a reasonable amount to ask for at mck?

I got an Ivy League exec mba in 2020 as well, which hasn’t yet been reflected in my big 4 comp (we mostly didn’t do raises because of covid last year). Trying to understand how much higher mck might be willing to go?

MBB is known for fastest progression to Partner in 6-7 years and SIGNIFICANTLY better comp compared to Big 4. That said seeing some of my Big 4 friends make it to SMs in 7 years so MBB needs to amp up the meritocracy based promotions.

Curious what would be the comp for a 1st year consulting partner in Big 4?

Hi fishes! How practical is the idea to join a Big 4 to become a partner ? How many people (in terms of %) actually stay there for so long ? I’m getting into a Big4 with the aspiration to become a partner someday and letting go of a role in a product based firm giving me 7 lacs more in compensation. I later don’t want to regret my decision in monetary aspect. My YoE = 7+ years.

Curious on Senior Manager (tax) salary progression for folks out there? VHCOL here (Bay Area): I’ll start:
SM1 - $150k (plus 11k bonus)
SM2 - 162.5k (plus 12k bonus)
SM3 - 175k (bonus TBD)

Have received good/strong reviews. Considered to have a strong path to partner.

In the 16 years since I was a summer clerk, profits per equity partner have more than doubled. The associate comp. scale has increased 20k in the same period. People wonder why associates are leaving for other jobs….

Is there anybody that thinks their salary is particularly greater than, or at least inspiring to, the majority on here that you’re willing to provide numbers and your career path to achieve it?

Whether you’re a partner, got in a pre-IPO company, C-suite, etc. I think it’d be interesting to see numbers, COL, and career path of the top earners, because I think there is quite a bit of misconception that all top earners have IB experience lol

Facebook is stating 95k base 10% bonus and equity (unclear how much) for marketing science partner in MCOL city. 4 YOE. Is this fair? Seems low..

Moving to NYC from Europe. Gonna make 170-180k pre Bonus. My partner is a student in NYC. How much rent can I afford in the city if I want to still have a fun life. My partner can chip in 1.5 to 2k per month.

Currently interviewing for Jr. Positions with my partner. Is it better to shoot for a higher salary and then work down? Or would you just get dismissed for unrealistic expectations? Any tips for handling the salary talk?

Is it appropriate to ask about the comp/benefits the partner group makes at a regional consultancy I’m interviewing with (top 30)? At B4 I know I’d start around 300k in my practice, great pension, etc. Obviously it depends on growth of the firm (300mil rev last year, projecting 1B by 2026) but I’m just not sure how to go about it. I’m already a senior manager so just don’t want to join somewhere with not much room for growth even if I do join partnership.

Am I being underpaid? Chicago. Started in 2017. Work at a mid-size insurance defense firm as the only associate in my practice group. I pretty much handle my own files except if I need to run something by a partner. Minimum billable 1950 (with expectation you exceed that). Partners consistently give me good reviews, feedback, tell me I'm the best associate, will make partner, etc. Make 110k with around ~10k yearly bonus.

Partner is upset with me about something that was out of my control. Is the best course of action to take responsibility, apologize, and move forward, or try to explain my side? Also is this likely to affect year end bonus/raise?

I had expected the next step of my career would be to join a tech startup but with this move my total comp would likely double or more ($800K+). Do I follow my dream or follow the money?

Let’s say average B4 first year partner draw is $400k with 5th yr average being $550k. Does anyone agree or disagree strongly with the below very general averages:
Tier 2 (GT/BDO/RSM) - yr1 $325k; yr5 $400k
Tier 3 (ranking 7-20) - yr1 $275k; yr5 $350
Regionals - yr1 $225k; yr5 $300k

I’m trying gauge what the long term comp difference would be at different firms assuming all other factors equal. TIA fishes!!
