Hiring managers: tell me about your most successful interviews and/or traits you consistently recognize in the candidates you hire

Recruiters are the only people in this industry that seem to think that spacing on an interview screening / call with a candidate warrants a second opportunity.

How do you get a job (in account service) at some of the larger well known agencies (I.e. Droga, WK, BBDO, Mischief, etc)? Are there smaller agencies I should try to gain experience with before applying to those larger agencies?

What is L’Oreal like as a client? I am interviewing and that is the main account.

What’re the rules on applying to other agencies within your holding company?

🚩 for a recruiter to send an interview invite 2 hours before the interview after no invite confirmation and silence the prior day?

Is it common to request either a time guarantee (2-year contract for instance) or a greater than normal amount of severance when interviewing for roles in times like this?

My current role is pretty secure, so besides increased comp, I’d want to make sure any new role would include some sort of safety net.

Had my final interview at Twitter on Thurs. I think my recruiter was hit by the layoffs because the email is no longer avail. I reached out to a secondary recruiter who put me in touch with someone else but this new person hasn’t responded (I reached out once yesterday). The position is no longer posted online/my app is still marked as “interviewing” on Smartr. I CANNOT STOP checking my email. I know things are prob crazy at TW rn but this is my dream job. Just here to vent 😭

I am an in house copywriter looking to move to an agency. I have some experience I feel confident in my book. I’m looking through LinkedIn and I only see one agency that interests me: FCB Chicago. I’ve applied there before and I know their interview process is kind of a mess. Should I try connecting to CDs and ACDs at that agency to make the process go faster? Also in general what are some agencies that are hiring?

Thoughts on submitting a cover letter or not when applying to jobs?

Best leadership or professional “self help” book you’ve ever read and how applying its logic helped you?

Does anyone feel like their company is immune to layoffs right now or at least well positioned to protect talent? I’ve been interviewing for a new job, but I’m keenly aware of the fact that many companies will have staff reductions. I’m so eager for something new, but am frustrated that my timing couldn’t be worse. Should I just stay put for a while?

Had anybody interviewed with Square? Have an interview tomorrow and they want me to present 5-6 projects with full metric results for a design role. 🤔

Hello everybody, happy Wednesday! I was hoping to get some advice on breaking into the industry, networking, and finding an "in" or mentor.

I'm having a lot of trouble with this. Cold applying to jobs hasn't worked super well. Getting in touch with talent agencies hasn't helped. Messaging creatives and recruiters, I rarely get an answer.

I have an upcoming interview for a “Strategic Creative Director” role. Any tips, suggestions or lingo I should drop to sound more strategic? I love a good insight or well-written brief but don’t think of myself as very strategic….

Anyone here had a Client Account Manager or Client Success panel interview at Twitter? If so, how was the process and how were the questions? I’ve made it through the first two rounds (VC with recruiter and VC with hiring manager) but I’m nervous about the panel!

I'm interviewing at an agency with unlimited PTO and the interviewer told me there's never any issues with people abusing it and there's no guilt attached with using it. What is y'all's experience with this in an agency setting?

What’s the best interview tip you have? My whole life I’ve identified as an outstanding interviewee. Then, in 2020, in the depths of my COVID quarantine depression, I had a TERRIBLE interview. Sounded completely incompetent. Now I feel like I’ve lost some of my confidence, and I’m afraid for a repeat. Interview coming up next week, and I really want to be the best version of me. Halp!

I didn’t get a job I really wanted. But then I got a LinkedIn invite to connect from a very high up person there that I didn’t interview with. What’s up with that? Should I reach out to them or would that just seem desperate.

What’s your average tenure? I really enjoy my work. I like my colleagues, I like the network I’m in and I like my boss. But I’ve been given the opportunity to interview with a small, but very impactful, consulting shop that specialises in purpose and meaning for brands. But I worry how it’ll look on my resume if I jump ship too soon (I’m 18 months into my current role, but 8 in career total). And I’d like the opportunity to maybe return to agencies some day. Would this look bad?

I’m 7 weeks pregnant and interviewing for jobs. Do I have to disclose the pregnancy? Or could I just disclose it after I am hopefully hired and reach that 12 week milestone?

Why do companies do this? I interviewed with a company. They loved my work and told me that I’m going to start the following week. They made me sign all of the onboarding papers and poof ghosted me! 🤦‍♀️ I feel so down right now! And I feel like I won’t be able to ever land a job!

Ghosted by a job I didn’t apply for and didn’t even really want; but I’ll be damned if it isn’t still a mind fuck when in the last interview they couldn’t stop talking about how excited they were for me to meet the rest of the team.
