Would love to hear about how anyone transferred from account management to strategy? I’ve worked in accounts for 3 years at small agencies/consultancies + strat was a large part of my role— developing social media strategies for national brands, copy writing, drafting thought leadership bylines. All of it hinges on having a great understanding of what client wants + being able to write. I just started at a giant international agency + my accounts role is too siloed/admin heavy i miss strategy

Heading into the office after another work-dominated weekend. Highlights from this one included our client’s CEO blowing me up all throughout my mom’s memorial service (because of a mistake their assistant made).

Hey bowl need advice for an early career fish. I’m new to the industry and recently took on my second job. First job required relocating, I couldn’t do it with the salary offered so I jumped less than a year into the role. I’m looking to switch to community management and after years, promote to strategist. The issue is I’ve been in my current role less than a year. Will this look bad on my resume as an early career seeker?

How do you respectfully stand up for your mental health? A coworker left a long time ago and I’ve been doing the job of 2 ppl for almost a year. My original accounts are busier than ever and another busy account was added on top of it. I felt like I was in the midst of a mental breakdown this week. A video game I love is launching end of this month. I’ve written a spec script for a fan-made launch video, another fan of the game composed an original score for the spot, I’m hiring a voice actor for it, and now I would ideally like to partner with a video editor. I would love your thoughts here and some input into how other agencies are doing it. The way we generate our “fee” for pretty much every project is based on a staffing plan. Using industry standards rates. Every position has a rate associated with it — we make some assumptions about who will be touching the work, we put a certain amount of hours to the position. This generates our fee. This part I believe is pretty standard.

Have we shifted from an employee market back to an employer market due to the recession / inflation? My stress levels are at an all time high as the work piles up, and I can’t help but wonder if employers think they’re now in a position to push people without the consequences of high turnover. I see reports that the job market is still really strong, but does that apply to advertising?

Just witnessed a company take down the job listing for a ‘Senior Social Strategist’ role and re-upload the same exact job description, tacking on a few additional job requirements, under the title ‘Social Media Manager’. Sounds they are trying to hire for a Senior level role but pay a mid-level salary lol

Applied to a copywriter job and discussed salary with the recruiter - 90/95K would work on their end. Just spoke with the hiring manager, who mentioned this being a “senior copywriter” role. If that’s actually the case, should I try to negotiate more $$ if I get an offer? And why would the job posting not say senior if it is?

Asking for a friend. Is a 10k raise (75k ->85k) for a promotion to a midlevel creative position in NYC low or typical??? I feel like the raise itself which is only 13% (and inflation eats 5-8% of that) seems low and I want to encourage them to ask for more.

Started a new role at a new agency and I’m not sure it’s what I envisioned. It feels like they don’t have a need for me on the team. How long do you give yourself to settle in before you question if this was the right move? It’s been about a month. Being mostly remote doesn’t help, either.

I’m starting to realize if they wanted to, they would. Every year there’s a Where Are All The Black People event, multiple initiatives to get black people in the door . We all show up and we all say “we are here” we have potential, creative abilities, drive, we are literally trying to get in just give us the tools and the entry level role. I've been in my current role for 6 months, working under a full-time CD and freelance CD. I'd been over-performing and leading creative on a large campaign for our most important client, when suddenly the full-time CD was fired and the freelancer's contract is up next week. Neither of their roles are being replaced, leaving me at the helm. Am I crazy for thinking this calls for a promotion and raise this soon?

How can I pivot out of programmatic and into a creative role?

Two different recruiters reached out to me within the span of hours about the same role. I had already responded to one with a salary range, but upon the 2nd recruiter reaching out I learned the range I gave was lower than they’re willing to pay. The first one didn’t say anything about “no one else can represent you” but I wonder how I should approach correcting my salary range to the first recruiter?
