Im 28 years old - I am a consultant in MA. I make 63k a year. No bonus, sub-par bennies. I have friends who work in similar (and different) fields who are raking in over 100k a year. At what point do you have enough of a network to go off and be an independent consultant? I know this is going to sound super egotistical but my firm hired me because of my expertise in a specific toolset and after seeing my peers, it’s clear that I am near or at the top when it comes to skills. A lot of these projects I feel I could do myself and then just reap all the profits instead of my salary.

I think being in US dominated chats makes it difficult for us to gage consultant compensation outside of US. I know the TC amounts to a lot less compared to US due to job market & better state welfare, but if you are MBB~Big 4 consultant in London, is it possible to have an upper-middle class life (let’s say ~3 kids, spouse doing ~50k job, detached house in Home Counties, HMC private schools, nice holiday once every few years, Rover and a mini)?

Considering a move to BCG Consultant. Currently have a job in Strategy&. Leaving to BCG would put me in debt for a loan I have to pay back to Strategy& for covering my MBA. If I plan on staying in consulting 3-4 more years, are the exit ops actually any better at BCG. Let's put compensation aside. Purely focusing on the exit opportunity (and maybe the intangible prestige that comes from having BCG on your resume) perspective for now.
