I don't think the reason for these layoffs is truly AI. I think it is a convenient excuse for companies to use, but I think companies are just trying to keep more money in their pockets. Not to mention, the job market is awful and nobody is going to be able to find a new role.
Yes. It’s sad.
It’s an easy scapegoat for companies to claim AI is the reason for layoffs. I’ve yet to work with an AI that was actually capable of wiping out a department. What’s actually happening is that the few remaining after layoffs are working 2-3 jobs now.
It’s the uncertain economy. Even companies with great bottom lines and stellar market success are looking to cut people.
