It does not happen,period…if your
Recruiter is telling you that they are lying 🤥

I can’t imagine that happens very often, no matter what was discussed during the hiring process. The PA process ranks SMs that are up for MD by a variety of scores (sales, chargeability, BD, market development, and as of late - diverse candidates take priority). We basically get a list of say, 20 SMs that have been put up and we might only have affordability for 4-5 of them. So we go through each one and discuss/debate the story, compare and contrast everyone so we can try to arrive at a ranked list.
I’ve never actually seen part of the story be “hey we promised this new guy/gal that they would get promoted right away”. You’re just compared on the metrics and story like everyone else and presumably you’re at a disadvantage because you don’t have the same network, support, relationships, track record, etc that feeds into your overall story.
They can’t promise you that - two years minimum.
I know of at least one case where an SM from EY joined in December and received a promotion two years later. Our evaluation happens in the summer and results are given in December (yes, that is annoying), so he got promoted on his first full year of evaluation. It's anecdotal, but it's certainly possible.

It’s as fast track as the will of person with the power to promote you. Otherwise, there is never such a thing. How much faith to put in is reliant on the credibly and trust that you have on the person promising you such an outcome. Speaking from a negative experience.
At ACN?
Which practice specifically?

Thanks all, that was my read on the situation as well. Thanks for the validating info!
Who specifically is telling you that the fast track route is open to you? Big difference between if it’s a SMD that is a practice lead vs a HR recruiting analyst.
Yeah headhunters have absolutely no clue on this topic, they’ll say anything to get you to accept an offer at the lower level so they get paid.
As others have said - the reality is that there are many, many well-qualified and deserving people in the MD pipeline each cycle that don’t make it because of affordability. And the promo decision is always based on 2 full years of performance.

Never seen it happen but I also don’t know a lot of new hire SMs. They tend to talk about it as a 2 year story for you to prove yourself even for those who are rising from within the company
Ask them to put it in writing
To call their bluff? I’m about to bail, politely, on this opp.
Consulting - what you don’t have, consider it didn’t happen. Work hard to make it happen. When it happens remember to celebrate!!
