After 3 years, the therapist disclosed that she’s in the program. I had wondered often about the source of her knowledge of the steps. Still I would’ve preferred her to remain anonymous in this regard. Now I keep wondering about whether I’ll see her at a meeting and what her story is. So odd. So self centered of me.

It’s only natural to feel that way, so try not to get too “in your head” about it. We don’t break our anonymity lightly, so she must have felt it needed to be shared, and she has incredible trust in you.

Whenever something like this happens and I don’t understand the meaning, usually it means I need to be patient and open, and the reason will be revealed to me at the right time. We never know how our Higher Power is working in the background. Maybe your therapist is struggling and needed some support, serenity and service from you. Who knows?

I would be grateful to have found a therapist in the program. A non-alcoholic therapist trying to treat an alcoholic is likely a waste of money (this applies if they’re trying to help solve the drink problem for you. Therapists are incredible resources for all the OTHER stuff that ails our sickened minds).

I currently need classmates and an instructor to motivate me to memorize speaking phrases and practice active conversation. I know there are apps for this type of language exchange, but they're usually 1:1 matches and virtual.

This past Wednesday (the 24th), was 3 years of sobriety for me.

In 15 years of weekend binge/blackout drinking, NEVER had I gone more than 3 weeks without a drink (typically never more than 1 weekend without a drink), and now my sobriety is counted in years (though still one day at a time).

I am beyond grateful and I know that this is something I could never do on my own.
