Life is more than your job and a designation. I’m not saying you shouldn’t strive for those things, but don’t let failure define you. My friend was a 4.0 student and passed the first 3 parts of the CPA on her first try, she took REG 4 times before she passed. You know what they call someone that had to take their last exam 4 times??? They still call them a CPA! Im guessing you were a great student and usually got what you wanted by working hard and you’re not used to failing? If you can learn from your “failures” or adversity then you’ll live a happy and grateful life.

Keep at the long term goal! If you’ve exhausted all options then at least you know you tried. I’m sure you can find other goals that can give you fulfillment.
Rub some dirt on it and get back on the saddle cowboy 🤠
That’s what I told myself after failing the cpa, I guess the last two events just hurt more tbh
Drink heavily for the weekend.
Refresh.
Monday morning get ready to tackle life.
You still drinking?
1. Failing CPA exams - I would guess the vast majority fail at least one part and many fail way more. It’s hard, you’re working concurrently, etc. No shame there. 2. Dream jobs are a mix of opportunity and readiness. I was first loser on many opportunities and I thank god daily I was because I got something much better. Keep pushing, do you, and things will work out just fine. Promise

Thank you all for the advice. I’m usually not one to get down on myself but I guess everyone needs some reassuring words every once and awhile. Thanks again, I’ll try to keep my head up high and keep going
I’m a strong believer in “everything happens for a reason.” Try your best each day and if things don’t work out as you wish, there is usually a reason. For example, I didn’t get an offer after an internship and felt like the biggest failure because you have to be an idiot to not get an offer… usually…. But I believe it was circumstances rather than personal ability and told myself that I didn’t get it because there was something better to come. I ended up receiving an offer from a better firm and dept IMO and now I’m a manager at a public accounting firm which I never thought was possible back then. Also, I’m not a CPA 😎 if that helps.

I know these are tough blows but don't be so hard on yourself. You got this!
All things you listed are very difficult, keep trying!
Think of it like this….you are hitting speed bumps in life as you are reaching to do new things. Sometimes it works out and sometimes not but better to try than doing nothing. I bet you will hit a winning streak soon and will forget all about this period of time.
Making the last section of CPA exams and the final round of job interview, and working for a big4 firm like EY is a good achievement. A while back, I got denied for a promotion, but ended up getting a dream job. Things happen for a reason. You will be a CPA and get a dream job soon. Cheers!
Good luck. I've been in your position on countless situations myself. I know how you feel.. For me, it seems like some years are crappier than others.. but good things do happen eventually. I guess the best advice I can offer is to not let rejection define you. Be stronger than the rejection and find something good for you.
And keep trying on the CPA exam. I know people who spent years trying to pass but ultimately did it... I was fortunate enough to have passed all on the first try but I hear people say that it gets easier the more you attempt to pass the exam since you're more familiar with the content.
Also good luck to both of us on the promotion - I'm waiting to hear if I got one too!
Public accounting is grueling and it's easy to find a moment where you can beat yourself up plus with all the hours we put in!

What’s a leadership conference?
It was conference to discuss business trends and to network with other young professionals and professor at the school. It looked like a great opportunity to network and potentially get noticed for mba programs.
Hang in there. Make a list of all your accomplishments. You made it this far because you are successful and you will continue being successful - you are building resiliency. If career redirection is in your future - that’s part of getting to good place.
