If I'm still doing this after 55, shoot me.
Ours partners are literally forced to retire or become "advisors" at 55
They go to the beach for retirement! The real beach, not the consulting beach.
Just joined Accenture and I'm 57
Forced retirement at most privately heals firms. Accenture...we just don't survive that long. Consulting lifestyle leads to an early death.
A fair number are dead by 60 - saves on pension payments
Because we wouldn't be able to move up otherwise. Lose out on fresh talent and become as stale as industry.
Partner pensions are fucking awesome too, so I'm sure they don't mind retiring at 60.
I hit 50 this coming summer. If you're an MD with at least 10 years of service (not at level) you can retire with some good benefits. So they do.
I know lots of "consultants" in their 50s. Also known as Partners (MDs at Acn). Mandatory Partner retirement age at EY is 60.
Why do they do the mandatory retirement?
The HR people will probably have some slick explanation but it's mainly to make room for others at the top. Pretty sure every firm has some version of this if they are a true equity partnership.
Partner pensions will kill the Big 4 model, the way they're currently set up.
D1. Some facts to back that up?
Can someone explain the Partner pension? How much is it?
I am. But this is my second career.
I think ACN asks partners to retire at a certain age... that being said there are definitely older folks in consulting! I was in the office a few months ago when this age ~75 ish year old Manager was retiring 😱 I was thinking how insane it was that we had the same job with nearly 50 years between us in age
An island somewhere
