My husband is bad at thinking on his feet so when we disagree, I have an unfair advantage so I give him the time and space to collect his thoughts so we can be on equal footing. Debates may be fun and stimulating for strategists like us, but it is also incredibly emotionally draining for a lot of people. And if the point of your relationship is to deepen trust and intimacy, treating your spouse like a sparring partner or source of intellectual fulfillment (under duress) is counterproductive and will only lead to resentment. (But on the rare occasions when he does engage with me, I thank him for indulging me because I know it’s not easy.)
That’s what coworkers and friends are for.
I mean sure I’ve learned to do the same but it does make me think what a unique breed we are lol
Holy shit I almost spit my drink reading this cause my fiancé says I love to argue and I’m a contrarian 😂 didn’t realize other strategists suffered from this
Are you...are you posting here arguing with her point that you like to argue?
My boyfriend has told me that sometimes I don’t know when to let it go and that I always need to be right. And he’s not wrong - I can feel myself doing it but just can’t stop myself 😩 It’s just hard when 90% of my life (work) is like intellectual jousting .... it’s hard to turn off the compulsion to share knowledge and “be right” 😭
The orientation shouldn’t just be about arguing to win right vs wrong. The best strategists design for realization among clients and audience.
I mean if we are getting paid for it ... 😂
