Any productivity hacks that you picked up from the pandemic? SO is a nurse on weekdays while I get the kids to daycare/school. Trying to squeeze every minute out of the day…

Prep the night before as much as you can.

I try to block some time at the end of my day to prep for the next day- review the meeting invites, make sure I’m up to speed, jot down questions, etc. so I can run in the door, sit down and be ready to rumble. This also helps me reprioritize or figure out what I need to offload. I block working time and keep to it.

With the kids, I make sure I do as much as possible the night before- find shoes, pack bags, make sure it isn’t some sort of spirit day involving an elaborate costume or hairstyle (the worst).

Change your default outlook settings to make appointments of 25 mins or 50 mins instead of 30/60. Those minutes you get back you can pee, hydrate and eat. You might even get a chance to breath and feel less overwhelmed.

My family mistreated me when I was younger, and now that I don’t live at home, they don’t call or bother to look for me, because frankly, I think they have a hard time admitting what happened - and will never apologize to me either. If I don’t call, or occasionally go see them during the holidays, we would never talk. Some of them are growing old (health-wise), and I’m scared this entire situation is just irreparable. Has anyone ever gone through anything similar? Any advice or thoughts?

Has anyone quit their job because of a relationship? I started my job 3 months ago and now my employer wants me to move to NY. The thing is, I fell in love during the pandemic with a friend that I have known for 3 years. It's frustrating since I know I could continue my job from home. I would honestly quit my job and wouldn't mind the job search again.

Hi
My husband and I just went through a few very difficult months. His mother passed after an aggressive disease and struggle, we had another family member pass, Covid, political climate, +. Just under the surface we are so sad. We have a very easy baby but a young child is still demanding. We are not motivated to work and I can’t figure out how to return to “normal.” I am not pulling my weight at work and generally can’t imagine being motivated like I was. Please send advice.

I work with a classroom of Middle School ED students. One student, who I worked with the year before, has changed alot over the year. Last year (pre COVID), she had a good head on her shoulders and I thought I had good rapor with her. But over that period of isolation, she tried to commit suicide.

All year, she was much more withdrawn and ALWAYS on her phone! At the end of the I was 'beat up by her - she really knocked my glasses off.

How should I approach her in the upcoming year?

Question about inclusion…. I’ve been teaching inclusion for 5 years so I’m still a newb, but a first year coworker of mine said she got points off on her observation because her kids were scattered in the classroom and she was having to move from kid to kid to assist. While I see the point of putting them together for convenience, I don’t agree with this at all! To me this is like singling them out by putting them all together instead of INCLUDED amongst peers. What do y’all think?

Hadn’t noticed this sub before, and most of the threads are old so thought I’d ask a follow up - how has everyone been handling parenting with public accounting? I’ve got a toddler and my wife is an accountant (industry), and we only have a few immediate family in the country- but they have health concerns. Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

Getting over heartbreak and having a full time job is torture lol. My boyfriend and I just broke up after almost a year of being together. It was such a beautiful relationship but ultimately he just didn’t love me. I love him so much. My mind knows that I deserve reciprocal love and I’m worthy, but I feel physically ill. My body hurts, my stomach is in knots, my head hurts. How is it that I have to mend a broken heart but also meet my billable hours lmao

I'm a corporate recruiter with 3 years of experience. Finishing my degree in HRM 5/2022. I'm thinking of getting my SHRM -CP shortly after graduation.

I'm not sure of where to go after that, but I doubt I will stick with recruiting or my current firm.

Has anyone here started off in recruiting and branched out to other HR functions? Do you like your new role? Do you wish you stuck with recruiting?
