Off topic: I am stuck in a service based company for last 4 years in a shitty project. The work I do can be done by a 12th grader. Now i want to move out by learning something new & changing my domain. But the thing is I am not able to study because I am stuck in a comfort zone and learning new thing gives me bad anxiety. It feels like I will never learn & be forever stuck here. Pls help on how to come out of comfort zone, learn things and apply for the job. Tata Consultancy Infosys Wipro

SSRI’s like Lexapro don’t work for everyone. I was on Lexapro for years at ever increasing doses and never felt 100%. I switched to an SNRI (bupropion) which works much better for me without the lethargy or sexual side effects. I’ve been on the SNRI for about two years now and have never felt better.
I second that ^
I am on Wellbutrin and it has DEFINITELY helped. It had a bit of an adjustment period, but overall way less depressed than I was before I went on it. I’ve been on it for two years or so. I remember thinking “oh, so this is how non-depressed people feel? Why did I refuse medication for so long?”
Hang in there! I hope you and your doctors can figure out the right medication for you. Also, I agree with everyone saying “exercise and therapy” AND I also remember how I felt when I was so depressed and having suicidal ideation. When one is that depressed, exercising is the LAST thing on one’s mind. So just do the next right thing. Whatever that small thing is that takes you one step closer to clearing the path 🙏 It wasn’t until my meds kicked in that I was able to even see the new path with making healthy choices as an option.
Funny it’s been a while since I posted above. Saw your post and thought “did I write that?”. Our experiences are so very similar.
Working out and taking walks outside helps me more than my medication did :) it doesn’t completely fix or solve it, but it helps a lot with my anxiety!
I’ve been on antidepressants since I was in high school, and what I’ve found is that it takes a while to find the right medication/medication combination. I think I went through 3-4 different meds before I found the current combo I’m on. Also, If you’re not comfortable with your current psychiatrist, search for a new one. Some relationships with psychiatrists don’t work, and they might not make you feel comfortable. ❤️ you’re not alone. Hang in there!
Agreed. I was on Celexa and that didn't do anything for me. Switched to prozac, with a different psychiatrist who took the time to hear about my symptoms and previous experience. After a couple of months I feel "myself" again. I'd say try and try again. There are just so many options to get it right the first time. A bit of trial and error.
My health care provider had me do a DNA test like Genomind. It helps you know what medications work for your body and which ones don't! I found out that a lot of common antidepressants don't mix well with how my body processes medication, so it helped explain why the meds were not working. It also saved me a lot of time using trial and error trying to find the right meds. https://www.genomind.com/

Thank you this is awesome, I’m definitely going to look into it! I love DNA studies
Do you work with the therapist as well?
Sorry, I’m not on antidepressants, but when I had anxiety I was actually prescribed those exact ones. However I never took them, instead worked with the therapist consistently. And god rid of anxiety and panic attacks in 6-7 months. Possibly those pills don’t work for you. It’s just my personal experience. Maybe talk to your doctor and if you don’t do therapy, I insistently recommend it. Be well❤️
You should find the therapist that will fit your needs. I changed 4!!! of them before I found the right one. And I also had the same feeling as you describe about fear of being judged. With the right therapist this fear should disappear. Also, it’s not really because you f’d up in your head. I also felt this way big time. I honestly was getting even more anxiety when I realized I had anxiety 🙈 it was horrible.
Probably something makes you feel like you are “f’d up” and that something makes you spinning all these negative thoughts in your head. There is reason for everything and for your negative thoughts as well. A good therapist will help you to find this reason and this is when you will start recovering.
Try to look for a therapist that focuses on CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy).
Also, that recommendation above about working out and go outside for a walk really works I can confirm it myself.
Just try everything and you will find what it takes specifically for you to feel better.
You will be fine I’m sure! Remember, it’s not permanent!
I took Prozac for years before switching to Lexapro, which really did the trick for me. I do recommend working with your psychiatrist to see if you need to add in another depression medication if you’re going through a depressive episode. Also... therapy really works. I remember my first session telling the therapist I thought therapy was bullshit but years later I’m a believer!
You might need to change Lexapro for something else
I have found that Lexapro is good for the anxiety but I struggle with having energy/desire to do anything. I’m currently taking a small dosage of Lexapro combined with Wellbutrin and I feel like I have a better balance of keeping the anxiety at bay while getting a little pep in my step from the Wellbutrin.
