Anyone take the CISSP? How is it compared to the CISA?

Just passed CISSP in December, took CISA in 2016. I hardly studied for the CISA after working in IT audit for a year, maybe a month of half hour a day of doing practice questions. CISSP is considerably harder. I got my masters in Cybersecurity in a program that boasted about grads passing the CISSP at a higher percentage than average and then spent 3 months reading 2 study books (All In One and the official Sybex book) and doing practice questions half hour ish a day and I still got questions on the test about things I'd never heard of and thought I failed until they handed me the paper that said I passed. I highly recommend the Cybrary lecture series to get a high level overview of the topics. As they say in those lectures the test is a mile long but an inch deep. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying a lot of topics but don't dive deep into each topic.

I have both. CISSP is a multi-month endeavor. The questions are a lot more memorization and applying that memorization onto a scenario (does that make sense? You gotta know the TCP/IP layers but also need to know how they function when faced with a networking scenario) so there's a lot more understanding that has to occur. I got through it with 4 years of security experience. 6 months of studying (15min/day, 5 hours every weekend).

Would you rather try to get promoted/climb the career ladder or try and grow your side hustle into a larger enterprise while working your day job? I’m at a point where I’m very comfortable where I am and ready to move on to higher paying but more stressful roles. At the same time I’m also pursuing a side hustle that can be lucrative if done correctly but comes with more risks. Would you 1.) try and get promoted while pursuing a side hustle or 2.) stay in current role and focus on side hustle?

Went from a big firm to work for a smaller firm. The people in the smaller firm are protective of their work and are good by their work too. I no longer feel chaos or stress. I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!
