I have tried it in Kindergarten. It depends on the group. I introduced each type if flexible seating with a mini lesson about the seat, and how to use it safely. Then I let every kid try it out so they could see what it feels like. I told them that the seats are tools for us to use to help us do our best learning. I let them choose the seats that help them learn. If a student was distracted by the seating they chose or used it inappropriately, I told them that this seat must not be the right tool for them- and that they need to make a different choice. Most groups did well with flexible seating- but I had one group that just could not handle the choices- they were more concerned with who had certain seats and always wanting what someone else had- the seats were a distraction from learning, so I had to take them away. I recommend you try it though! When it works, it’s great!

For some kids it’s a miracle solution and for others it’s my absolute worst nightmare. I have one student who will do anything I ask if he can sit in his favorite chair, I have another entire group where I have to quite literally hide all my flexible seating before I get them because they can’t handle it at all. Depends on the kids!!!
