I like to keep at least one offer in my back pocket at all times for this exact reason. Its a pain in the ass to clandestinely interview once a month or so but having an emergency "fuck this place" button is totally worth it.
If you're targeting a specific company in a specific market, Google "X company recruiter X city"... The correct LinkedIn profile will be in your first few hits if it's a big company. Might have to try different variations of the title "recruiter." If you don't have a specific company in mind, Google "professional search firms X city".. Peruse websites to find the right match. Many of them focus on specific industries and have a handful of go-to client companies in which they place people frequently. You should be able to glean all of that from their website. If you're going the professional search firm route, use them to critique your resume. They know what their clients look for.
Can you share the names of recruiters? Same spot - looking for jobs now that I am not with PWC and stressing out. Thoughts?
@M1 don't stress too much. Do some internet research to find prominent head hunting agencies in your city and use them to get your name out there. A lot of people have mixed feelings about professional head hunters but the decent ones have a serious rolodex that you simply won't be able to match on short notice. I work with 3 different firms but I have to spread them out so I don't burn any bridges by not accepting too many of the offers they help me get. One solid head hunter that focuses on an industry you're interested in should help. You could also use this opportunity to relocate to a a different city or move into an industry you've always been interested in. It sucks being let go on short notice but there are opportunities as well.
@A2 I haven't run into it yet. I haven't negotiated above a 15% raise, so maybe there would be room if I didn't use them. My understanding is they get paid as a percentage of the package they get for you. If that's the case, I would think their incentive would be to try to get more. The primary head hunter I use is always putting me up for positions that come with 10-15% raises and stronger bonuses then I get here. I don't pull the trigger because I still haven't come across an industry job where the long term earning potential is as high as if I were to stay in consulting until manager and exit then
I am interested as well!
I was trying to do the same thing as it is good practice to have a back up - however the release from the firm was unexpected.
How do I find head hunters
Pwc1, don't they low ball u on salary? I thought head hunters had to get paid too so the company can't offer u as much.
Yeah I spoke with a head hunter and they put me in that range too. That's low, ppl get offered very significant raises to leave consulting, 15% isn't worth it, IMO. Trust me, if you're not desperate to leave take ur time and try to talk to the corporate recruiters directly.
If I get 15% off base plus reasonable bonus number as a D...bye Felicia
