Only coast I know is east and west

I have not … being an immigrant and knowing how much my parents sacrificed to come to America, I want to be able to take care of them in retirement. Hopefully my future kids can be more care free and in a much better position.
But, I also don’t hate my work so it’s not like I am looking to escape or anything like that.
Are you me?
When life hits you… for some when they have kids or in my case family medical emergency. At least it provided me a different perspective on how to prioritize things in my life.

As an immigrant who worked hard for the first few years, I am definitely not looking to push myself in my career. At the point where we make enough as a family to live and retire comfortably and my wife and I have made the conscious decision to maximize quality of life and time with kids before they head to college. Helps a lot that we don’t have expensive tastes (clothes, cars etc.), are almost zero on the “keeping up with Joneses scale” and bought our house right before the boom and locked a really low interest rate. Now only big expected expenses are kids education. Total license to coast.
If you don’t take the time your body will eventually take the time for you. I found it easiest to dial it back/meet expectations the year I returned from having kids and the first year or so post-any promotion. I’m in my mid 30s now and I don’t regret taking any of the time or slowing down. Those were some of the most enjoyable times of my life, pre and post kids.
For what it’s worth, I think slowing down is a crucial part of the job. So much of success is just showing up, and that’s not possible if you burnout. Not all of us are built to be “sprinters” professionally that can grind through their 20s, but if you work for a good company, they’ll have a path for the “marathoners” too.
I took time off for a family situation but I paid dearly for it. I make significantly less than my prior role and work more.
What was your role before?

I took a year when I got promoted to manager and kind of dropped to 85%. Not back to 110% tho trying to get SM promotion
Transitioned to tech - best move I ever made. I feel challenged, but not overwhelmed. There are days when I coast a little, but everything gets done on time. Consulting expects so much of your time and mental energy, if you want to stop expecting so much of consider a career change
are you guys hiring?
I coasted at Booz Allen for almost 3 years, we all need some time to recoup

I went from 65+ hours a week and traveling every week for four days to 40 hour work week, WFH, No travel and more money. I give it a hard 40 and enjoy my life now.
Deloitte will not take well to you coasting. Be prepared for a hit if you do.
I’ve been coasting since March 2020, but I’ve also been promoted twice 🤷🏻♂️
