You can do this!! Stay strong!! Don’t give up on almost a full year a progress just because you’re feeling lonely — I know you have got this!!!
Call your sponsor!
First of all, congrats on the sobriety!!
As for how you’re feeling. I get it. I really do. My addiction is food. My “sobriety” was a healthy eating plan and losing quite a bit of weight. However, as soon as a holiday/significant date (birthday/promotion/etc) would roll around, I’d fall off the wagon due to loneliness and not having anyone to share those occasions. And then the weight would go up, I’d feel crappy, and then eat more. It’s a vicious cycle that has to be broken. Only you can do it, but allow others in to encourage you and to talk things out. Once you’re happy and healthy, things will fall into place and you’ll attract happy and healthy partners. If you’re allowing the loneliness to trigger your addiction, then you’re not ready for a relationship and all the stress that comes with one (because no matter how great it is, there is always going to be lows with the highs). I say all of this from first-hand experience.
It sounds like you have people in your life who are there for you so please take them up on their offers! They want to help and see you happy. A drink isn’t going to make you happy, but will just restart the vicious cycle you’ve worked so hard to get out of. There is a song by Lifehouse called “Sick Cycle Carousel” I would encourage you to listen to.
Hang in there and you will get through this!!
You’re not alone.
Where are you? We can hang out... if you are close to me. I am single and will be alone during the holidays.

I’m in columbus. I am going to my mom’s house for a couple days nowS
Go to a meeting. Call your sponsor. Go
For a run. Whatever it is that reminds you that you’re alive and are more than your addiction.
Keep your progress going! Make other plans to avoid it. Take yourself to a movie and gorge yourself on popcorn and snacks in the dark shamelessly. You’ve done great to make it this far, and there’s still a lot of life ahead of you at age 40

thanks, been doing a lot of gorging this week 🙈
OP - feel free to dm me. I am open to talking. You are doing great - stay strong.

I felt that way! That was 16 years ago but I decided not too do it. A great decision

The 347 days you have is like a diamond! Don’t let it go. I was 37 when I decided to recover and first few tough because you feel like your on a small raft in the middle of the ocean. St ay in the middle of raft because if you get to close to the edge you will fall off. Eventually the raft will turn into a cruise ship. You will meet the right people and you will be ok.
One thing to know that even recovery you still deal with life, relationships, breakups, bullshit. But you still have that diamond

That's almost a year! Keep going! Plan a little gift for yourself or trip to look forward to when you hit that 365 day mark! You got this! 🥳

You got this OP!
I went through something similar last year and I'm going through it again this year. I'm terrified. Feel free to DM if you want to vent or commiserate.

Thank you will do!
I’m sorry you’re feeling lonely. On the bright side it’s probably fine to set up some dates now. I’m sober for 9 years but was married when I got sober. The main reason they suggest no major changes in the first year is because change like moving and breakups are stressful and could lead to relapse. There are likely not a bunch of people going on dates this holiday week bc people are with family often. Here’s my suggestion: Plan an ambitious movie watching party with a themed dinner each night. Or get away from home by taking a trip. Or go spend time in meetings. Or hang with family. Keep busy. In the new year start a social hobby like joining a running/training group, taking sailing lessons, doing improv classes. You’ll start meeting people that way. Also apps are good but shallow.

love all this! i may start taking boxing classes with a friend from my program. also planning to finally try to get a 6-pack, i’ve wanted one my whole life and with all the free time not being bedridden hungover or out drinking, i really don’t have an excuse. i’ve already lost close to 30lbs this year.
First of all congrats on your 377 days! 2. It’s normal, I’m the same it’s just that my addiction is carbs. 3 I don’t mean to underestimate your pain. 4 I just think being alone and sober it’s THE best for the holidays. Here are some ideas I wish I had the time to do:
1. Think and reflect
2. Show gratitude
3. Read
4. Workout
5. Do a cleanse diet (this is where the sober part really comes handy).
6. Do a solo road trip
7. Write/work on hobbies
8. Etc
I am so jealous you get to spend all this time with yourself. Good luck! And think of us who are stuck with relatives (some of which we don’t even like).
Keep us posted and definitely call your sponsor. Also this is a great opp for you to exercise other coping mechanisms (I don’t recommend carbs haha). This can be your offering to baby Jesus if you believe.
you got this!!
There’s a better ending than that, my friend. What if you fight and what if you win? 💜
347 days is amazing and I'm so proud of you. Please reach out to your sponsor!
You can always call me. For real, drop me a DM. Happy to talk (and listen) at your convenience. Sometimes an outside perspective might be just what’s needed.

If you go to a meeting, you'll very likely find someone in the exact same position as you. I know how tough the holidays can be for those in recovery. Don't be afraid to lean on each other to get through it.
