That was me a few years ago... I really feel for you. :( Trust me on this: you have to tell your supervisor sooner rather than later. The last thing they need is to send you out on patrol when you aren't able to function at 100% (and that isn't a putdown by any means, like I said, I'm in the same boat). You might want to consider a lateral transfer like I did. Detectives and officers make about the same wages and it means you are still in law enforcement, just not out on the streets all the time. It's worth looking into for sure. I'm way happier now that I feel more certain I'm coming home to my family at the end of each day.
Ask about being assigned to patrol a different area sometimes, or take on more specialized projects in the station. Not everybody is built to be a patrol officer and it is a VERY demanding job, burnout isn't uncommon. Perhaps taking a short break will help you figure out your priorities and decide whether it's time to change your career focus. You could still be a detective, court officer, or several other things without being on patrol.
I worked in the inner city for several years and while it was very high stress, it was a good starting point, and I've always been the type to jump into something headfirst. I transferred to another department almost two years back, and it's been a real change of pace. Perhaps you should try a different location?
