Being recruited to a mid-tier firm for a high-level forensics role primarily because of my subject matter expertise, leadership background, and fairly large professional network. No prior sales type experience. Is forensics a desirable area? Pros/cons?

I'm in forensics with a top 10 firm. If the position is senior manager and above, you will be expected to find clients and bring in new projects. You will have a sales goal. If you have no experience with that, especially with a firm job experience, it could be tough.

That's so niche. I only worked on a few projects related to healthcare. If you have good connections in the industry like hospitals, insurance, pharma companies or doctors, go for it. From what I see, not a lot of people are experienced in this, you may just stand out.

I’m not in forensics, but I have done some research because I do find it really interesting and something I might want to venture into myself someday. Basically it depends on you and what you find interesting. You could be in some challenging or high pressure situation, it can be very tedious work, but it can be a lot of variety in cases and provide some unique challenges.

GTM moving back into consulting is a good idea in theory, but it’s like a train wreck happening in slow motion.

Sure feels like they are pushing to stand up a traditional CRE network for product sales inside of consulting … that won’t work in a service business. Some of us have seen this movie before - different theatre.

Watch how this plays out over next 6 months.

I’m hoping someone might have some ideas about this- I’m currently five years out of law school with a clerkship, a tax LLM, 3 years of experience doing transactional tax work and a few months of EC/VC experience (which I recently switched to from tax). I like the EC/VC work, but I don’t know how long I want to stay in biglaw. Can anyone weigh in on how employers for in-house roles might look at my experience in a year or two?
