Hi ladies! First gen Latina corporate lawyer here. I’ll be relocating from DC to NYC soon. Recognizing how hard it is to find diversity in the workplace even in the most diverse cities, I’ve joined this bowl in hopes of contributing to building a community among my fellow Latina lawyers. Anyone relocated from Toronto to London recently (within the last 2 years or so)? My partner and I are contemplating the move...we want more diversity in our lives and want to work to live, not live to work as we do here in our respective consulting jobs. I am curious how other inclusion teachers are being utilized when the school is doing remote learning. I find that I am sitting in the zoom class and have very little opportunity to contribute. I am having discussions with my teachers on ways that I can better support them and the students when remote.

I really feel like I should be excused from this "diversity and inclusiveness" training stuff lmao. It's about implicit bias and I'm sorry it's just not believable coming from an old white man's mouth when there are maybe 4 non-white associates. We're having these meetings 3 times this week. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Latinx - help! We used this term in our diversity spotlight discussing Hispanic Heritage Month. One individual said that in English a group of Latinos would just be Latins to be gender neutral. I understand the word is controversial but is “Latins” grammatically correct? I assume we should just say Latin Americans, but trying to understand if Latins is also accurate.

Does anyone have any metrics/ benchmarks they could share on diversity hires? We're putting goals together for 2023 and our senior leadership wants 30% of all candidates interviewed and hired to be gender or ethnic diverse.

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.

Hey team! I've been thinking about what success would mean in terms of this platform and general inclusion in the team. These are some of my thoughts:

1. Frequency of positive engagements (positive in a productive, constructive sense)
2. Increasing numbers of people engaging in each topic as they get more comfortable using the tool and airing their opinions
3. Some measure outside the app of team engagement in day to day interactions (changes in psychological safety)

Hello! It seems this bowl is not very active but I'd like it to be. So here's my story: Born & raised in PR, moved to CA for undergrad & have been here since then. I graduated from law school in 2019, followed by a 2 yr bk clerkship. I did the evening program. I really enjoyed law school, in spite of the microaggressions, the late nights, & crazy competition. 3L with mostly A’s and B’s. I am having the worst luck trying to find work for after school and my experience working with lawyers has left me completely dejected. I cannot get an interview to save my life. I was so excited to get an externship summer after 2L with a small business and IP firm only to get yelled at on the phone a few times for not doing an assignment correctly. Mind you, I was working FOR FREE as it was a school connected externship. That made me never want to work in the law.

I grew up very poor. I get extreme anxiety and shame when I spend money above $20. Deep down I feel like I should scrounge and save every penny. I use bath towels that are 10 years old and threadbare cause I can't bring myself to buy a "luxury item" despite making oodles of money and have a ton saved and invested.

I started a new job, and moved to a new city about 7 months ago. Honestly, I’m not happy. I like my company’s culture, but not what we do. I tried to stay a float , but just can’t. I’m in a place of leadership, and they have me in a lot of projects I have no interest in. Current salary is 75k and I have a contract offer(aligned with my passion) for $50hourly(roughly 100k).
