Can you over fund your 401k? I increased my 401k contribution to max it out earlier this year to save funds for later. I didn’t factor in bonus and looks like now with bonus hitting next paycheck I will be over the limit. Would Deloitte only deposit the max amount I am eligible to contribute or do I need to contact vanguard to send me the excess funds?

Sanity check. I like a nice lifestyle. Currently make 350-550k with bonus. 53 years old. About 400k in brokerage. Another 1.9million in retirement accounts. House worth 1.2 million with loan of 625k. Made a career pivot to another agency. During the interview we talked about how it may start as initially a "step backwards" (pay/benefits) but has potential for more long term growth. First day was yesterday. Had no communication about when or where to show up, sat in an empty office for about half an hour before a couple people finally showed. No phone call or email. Sent an email to the founder, no response. I could easily get my old job back if wanted.

1- refund ALL of it even taxes Withheld ?
2- refund only the amount that was deposited in your account

How does one decide whether to buy in a normal brokerage account vs. Roth IRA?

$530k HHI, $250k cash on hand, $1.2M investments/retirement. Plan to buy $800-900k house as our first home, but thinking of the best approach given rates today. My thinking is that we (i) put $200k+ down and get a 5/1 ARM. (ii) put everything we save moving forward toward paying down the principal (after maximizing retirement accounts). Should be able to do $100k per year. (iii) If rates go down below 4.5ish % for 15 year fixed, refinance and stop aggressive payment. Thoughts on this approach?
