Does anyone have any recommendations for books on general privacy law compliance/practical applications of privacy laws? I’ve been in the incident response sector for a few years now, but I’m starting to feel a bit stuck in an area without much knowledge that would translate well to an in-house role eventually. Trying my best to take a proactive approach and change that

Privacy law is so fast moving that I don’t know that a book would really give the practical application you’re looking for as there is constantly new case law/regulator guidance/regulations. I would instead look to follow firm blogs and regulator updates online. There are some really active privacy practitioners on LinkedIn too, who often post helpful summaries of privacy current events.

Book won’t help. Field evolves too fast.

Highly recommend following Husch Blackwell blog and subscribe to regulator email lists

Assuming you mean US privacy laws, check out study guides for or books related to CIPP/US.

Yes sorry! I’d also look at GDPR too. I have my CIPP/US already so I’ve looked at those, but was looking for anything beyond what IAPP publishes that has more practical application guidance / new developments in the laws

Question for those in "tech" cities. I am in Northern VA and view this area as a potential tech destination of the future as FAANG moves towards servicing the federal govt (see HQ2). Is there much of a premium in terms of pay for the accountants in the current tech cities? Is a career in FAANG as an accountant better than public accounting if you never expect to make partner? There already seems to be a severe shortage of talent here in NoVa so I'm wondering what to expect 3-5 years out.

Anyone have any idea when the hiring freeze might end within AWS ProServ? I’m currently at Amazon and have a TS clearance, PMP & CSM. I come from a Big4 consulting firm with a background in Enterprise Performance. I’ll be honest and say I’m not feeling very safe in my current role with the ongoing layoffs. Instead of leaving, I’d love to go back to my “consulting roots” and join the ProServ team. I’m taking my AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam next weekend. Hoping this freeze is lifted soon.

Hi all,
Been doing privacy for about a year now in-house. Got my CIPP/US.
Having major imposter syndrome still. I feel like the minute I finally have a grasp, something changes. The law and nuances just seem overwhelming. Maybe it’s just a lack of guidance/uniformity in the US. I’m not sure if I feel this way because it is simply the nature of the work or because I’m just not capable.
