Does anyone have any recommendations on advanced books or other resources to learn about investing ? I’m looking for something much more in depth than what I have already read which usually just explains how to eliminate debt and what dollar cost averaging is. (No debt and already dca)

For options, check out "Option Volatility & Pricing" by Sheldon Natenberg. Haven't read it yet, but highly recommended to me by former institutional derivatives trader.

Rule 1 investing! I haven't read the book but I am a podcast addict and it was on my podcast lineup. If the book is anything like the podcast it shows how to evaluate companies' financial statements, read the 10k and letter to shareholders, etc. Phil and Danielle are very anti index funds (which I dont know if I agree with) and very into investing in a few good companies for life.

No idea about team/culture/stability differences yet.

The non-work factors I'm debating are:
1. Cost-of-living (housing!). Could probably afford a nice ~$1.25M SFH in Seattle suburbs sooner than a fair $1.5-2M near Cupertino.
2. Public School quality. Unsure private will be affordable.
3. Weather/region: activities

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?

Anyone know of adult recreational soccer leagues in San Diego? Any informal pickup leagues should work too. Would prefer something in La Jolla/north county but willing to drive to downtown!

Can someone walk me through the Do's and Don't's of AA miles? I think they're a joke.

I have 65k miles and I could only pay for a one-way ticket from PHX-JFK. I had to book 1 leg with miles and the 1 with cash, but booking the other leg in cash was about 80% of the round trip in cash.

My mom has 12k miles that expire soon, transferring them would cost me $450. I can pay for a round trip with that cash but I can only pay for a trip to my kitchen with those 12k miles.

What am I doing wrong? 😂

Additional Posts in FIRE Financial Independence Retire Early

I’m curious how much other people with similar incomes save/invest a year; I’m a 24M, making 70K a year in a HCOL city. I saved about $12K in my first year of working out of college, and I feel like that’s pretty good but I could’ve done better. My rent isn’t too pricey, but I went on 3 vacations, go out to the bars frequently, and spend pretty freely on food. Anyone care to share their income and corresponding savings for FIRE?

Do people tend to age out of wanting to FIRE?

In your 20s-30s, you don’t know much, you’re told what to do, you have few financial resources so you are tied to your job. Under these circumstances it makes perfect sense why you would want to FIRE asap.

But eventually you advance up the ladder, you are now the boss and your people do all the grunt work. You also have built up expertise which makes the job easier. And you are making the best money of your life. FIRE is no longer so pressing.
