If you are in public accounting it will depend on your service line.

At my last job , I had a manager who wasn't a CPA. He was a lot smarter and more technical than the other managers who were CPA's. He said he felt he had to try twice as hard to be impressive since he has the "cloud" over his head of not being a CPA. I have a CPA(auditor ) friend of mine who goes to H &R Block to get his taxes done .Go figure .
Yes plenty. Partners too
Will also depend on the position your firm takes. Some firms require it for manager and above promotions for tax and other service lines, not just audit.
Lots of JDs in public
Manager, industry, not a CPA. My boss (director) and his boss (VP Finance) also not CPAs.
I am studying for it though, so maybe that’ll change in the future. I’ve noticed a decent number of jobs seemed to heavily prefer, if not totally require it, so it seems silly to artificially limit myself.
I’ve seen a SM with EA in Big 4 tax.
I know at least 1 P that’s an EA
I know a Senior Manager at EY P who doesn’t have a CPA. It isn’t necessary but if you wanna break your back to get it, go ahead. I invested that time into my cosmetology license which makes me more $$$ on the side than if I had the CPA. I do well in advisory w/o it
JD here. I already did my hard test and I have no desire to do another one.
If you want to make a career in audit, get it. If you’re in tax, you should either be a CPA or JD. It’s not absolutely necessary for tax, but not having it can definitely limit you. For other fields, it probably doesn’t matter much at all.
I’m a controller and I don’t have CPA. I make enough to comfortably aupport my partner and kid in a HCOL city. Got my MBA with acct concentration, probably do CPA at some point, but outside of public accounting if you’re good at this and smart you can build a strong career without it.
Yes in smaller firms for audit and tax. There are other certifications in tax that someone can have instead to reach that level.
In audit yes we have a few
