Employees 45 and up, what are your predictions/guesses for the next 15-20 years of your work-life/career before you hit retirement age marker? Specifically asking those who rely on full-time employment almost exclusively.

In the ad industry, once you pass 40 there is a target on your back. Nobody retires from advertising, except for that nice lady Barbara from Finance who corrected your paycheck that one time. You’d better sock away a huge chunk of your salary and prepare for a plan B.

This is so true. Look around- your agency likely has like 10-20 people over 40, and they are ECD, Group directors, finance or head of production, traffic or biz affairs or the like. If you are not that senior role, you simply cost too much by 40 to be a worker bee and will be replaced by a cheaper/younger hire.

And the few people that are there at 45 are holding on by their fingernails.

I am pretty sure I am going to be laid off this fall (too old/too expensive/too uninterested in taking on additional responsibility); I am planning to look for a low-key industry role with a significant paycut and stick it out until my youngest finishes college.

I’m 45 and hope to be done with working in 10 - 15 years. I’m close to getting settled up with. I can tell. My nearly 20 year career thus far has been a grind with one notable financial success. But I think I’ve got “one last big score” in me.

I’m tired of working so hard/playing the game and currently feel that I’ll be the target in a lay-off vs those younger than me. Biggest concern is insurance. Otherwise, I’d just become a dog walker.

I've received an offer from LnT (29 LPA), is that good enough to resign now , considering my CCTC is 25.8.

Also, I'm almost 90 pc sure that i may be released within a week of resignation as my project contract has not been renewed and we're in handover phase.

Could you guys please advise me, as to what should be my course of action here? Should I resign and can I get better opportunities in the next 1 month?

Can anyone suggest if it's even possible to try to get promoted in 2 years? Just don't want to put in extra effort and getting disappointed later.

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

I don’t tell my spouse how to spend their time or energy. We talk about goals, and I ask “how do I need to support that?” Or “what does that mean we need to change in our routine?” or “Do we need professional help to accomplish that?”

All these posts about spouses telling each other how to look, what to eat, or how to spend their money or time, baffle me. If I told my partner what to do, they’d be resentful and think I was crazy. I would too.

Am I crazy for feeling this way???
