The strong search benefits and support are mostly MBB exclusive. Other firms will either have nothing or a much weaker version.
It was fine with me before kids, now I’m rotating to an internal role because I’m not willing to be gone 4d/wk and/or working 60-80hr weeks anymore. Work used to be the thing that gave me meaning in life; now, it’s just a small part of who I am. It’s part of growing up and how your priorities change when/if you become a parent. I’m willing now to put in ~50hrs because that’s the kind of childcare I can afford. I love my job and the life that it enables, but not to the detriment of my time with my kid.
EM1: I totally get it. We had my first when I was an M, and it was a huge pinch. I used to feel like I’d save more if I’d stayed home 🤷♀️

Because they couldn’t get into Deloitte
Being an insecure overachiever is what drives most top consultants. When they compete amongst themselves, especially in an up or out environment, it becomes somewhat of a race to the bottom for wlb.
I wouldn’t really say it’s a competition or that we feel the up or out. I actually find it a super supportive environment, where I’m friends with most of my peers. If anything, we get through the rough days together.
Some people see it as a competition, but by far the minority, and yes, they’re usually the ones racing to the bottom and will burn out before they win anything. The ones who are successful are the ones who find balance and that people actually like. Assholes don’t last too long.

I’d say it averages out to 50-60hrs/week with spikes and lulls of <40 hours to 70+, but you can usually see the spike in hours coming from a ways away and brace/prepare yourself

55-60 isn’t hard for me at all. 65-70 is but most weeks don’t get there. We have protected weekends so plenty of time to play hard.
We also do very interesting and impactful work, have an insane progression/development timeline, and are surrounded by (mostly) great people.
Really not that difficult tbh. I literally never work on weekends. All that work gets packed in between Monday at 8am and Friday at ~4pm.
Basically it means I don’t have time to watch The Masked Singer or whatever lame reality tv show is popular these days. 🤷♂️
I am more than surprised that 70 is the cut off 😅
If a few more years of this allows me to bypass certain middle management roles that often end up as a terminal level for many people, then I’ll grind through
So what’s the goal? If you do a few more years at BCG what is the exit plan?
What's the hour ?
Two of them technically are 😂 Strategy& -> PwC & EYP -> EY
It gets better .
Not at all - it’s just part of the business. I used to hate sales growing up in the firm. Now I have my own approach to sales - it’s trust based, vs. sales oriented. I build great relationships and I do good work, and the sales follow. And we all help each other. I’ve helped many who have been close to missing targets and the reverse. Don’t be scared. It’s a good deal, and it all works out. It really is a lot of fun. It’s not easy, but it’s fun, and there is a lot of support in the system!

It's mon-fri mostly. I only get annoyed if projects require weekends.
