I believe there are just so many applications for each position that it is difficult for anyone to break through the noise. When I am interviewing for a position I often hear that sum 100 to 200 people have applied for the same position. Honestly, I consider it an accomplishment to even make it through to the interviewing process at this point.
They have one or more internal candidates, so you're likely fighting a one-legged uphill battle while spitting into the wind, with two hands tied behind your back.
Many posting may also be fake - done just for compliance reasons while the internal candidate was shortlisted just prior to the posting.
All of the above. Jobs are already almost filled before they are posted. Perception is that older leaders are more expensive. I was recently forced out by a less than competent leader who was intimidated by me and also resented that I wouldn’t put other older workers out on the street. I’m paying for it now but at least I can look at myself in the mirror and know I kept my principles.
When they ask you if you have any questions...ask this, "What do I need to do to get hired for this position?"
Economy, it's election year
Presentation, competition or lack of product knowledge.
Honestly I feel like I am just competing against so many people. Even on Linked in by the time I see a job there is already 200 applicants and sometimes that is minutes after they post it. I think its just hard to get noticed when so many people are applying.
Referrals and nepo-hires. I was a fly hair away from landing a sales manager gig at Atlassian, the hiring manager pinged my referrer one last time to provide tie-breaker feedback before going with one of her cronies from her previous company.
Probably lots of applicants are line up to get the job.
I've been told that I'm intimating a threat to manager hiring because of my knowledge and success I've had .
