Definitely something to think about. Thanks for sharing! I think it is in everyone's best interest if we give our students as many chances as possible
It is not about power at all. I don’t send kids out of the classroom because our admin basically undermines any behavior management we are trying to accomplish by rewarding the students with snacks, the ability to avoid the work, and lots and lots of attention. It is not helpful at all. It is more effective to have the student stay in the room and wait them out, follow through with the expectations calmly and help the kiddo get back on track than to send them out to get treats and attention. But this is at the early elementary level. I would have no idea how to handle an older kid or teenager who is acting out.
Agree. Thanks for responding and sharing. I do not send them to the office either.
