Yeah, not surprising then. They lowered the at-will employment boom on you.
They will do that if you're going to a major competitor. It's not that crazy. I have had a few friends put their two weeks in and get escorted out day of because the sensitive nature of their work.
Going to EY
Your two weeks notice is just a courtesy notice to the rest of the team that they'll need to replace you. PwC can let you go as soon as they learn that you're going somewhere else, they don't legally have to keep you there for 2 weeks or pay you for them
Yeah you'll get your two weeks paid. Honestly I'd rather have your situation. I gave my two weeks and then they worked me to death to suck all they could out of me. I'd rather just get walked out and get two weeks off.
Associate 2 is wrong. If pwc walks you out the day you tell them, they still owe you two weeks just like they would if they were firing you. I literally just went through the process of giving my two weeks so I did all the research and was prepared for them to walk me out. Just be prepared for them to walk you out. Have your personal files transferred over to a personal computer and your business wrapped up. If they keep you for two weeks then you have more time to wrap up, if not, jokes on them and you're already prepared to send your farewell email and hand over the laptop
Are you required to tell them where you're leaving for?
They pay you until your actual last day there....if you actually did work those two weeks then yeah you get paid. If not then no....
That depends case by case. I'd check with HR to clarify
You going to a competitor?
I think you can let them know you're leaving so they can prepare to replace you but don't be at all surprised if they let you go on the spot
The trick is to give two weeks the day after pay day. They will then cut you right away and still give you the full two weeks pay plus vacation pay out.
Short sided move by PwC, now more people will quit with no notice
That's so messed up!
Where are you going to bro
Yep many of these threads here and I've been advising people to time quitting properly.
So what is the best way to navigate this? I thought that giving two weeks notice was a basic standard?
I remember reading in my employment contract when I joined in 2015 (NY) that if you give 2 weeks notice, they'll pay you for 2 weeks even if they tell don't want you to stay 2 weeks. If you don't give 2 weeks, that's fine, but then they don't have to pay you past the day they tell you to go. For example, if you give 1 week notice and they tell you to go after 2 days, they don't have to pay you for the last 3 days.
Be careful emailing shit to yourself. Print it instead.
