Hi All,
Looking to make the move from working in industry to big4 and was curious as to what level and pay I might be worth?
I have 10 years experience out of uni, as well as completed CPA and MBA. I have a experience in managing entire finance function of small/medium entities, but most notably solid corporate finance experience/strategy leading refinance exercises, debt raising, hedging/treasury strategy etc…Would be looking for something in deal advisory / M&A / CFO advisory etc….thanks Deloitte EY PwC @

PwC is on a cohort. Your pay will align to your role and the city to which you’re mapped to. There’s no room to negotiate, especially at associate.
You have a set pay based on the level you come in.
So basically you should try to negotiate your level in order to negotiate your pay.
All A1s get paid the same, all A2s, etc..
It’ll be something like this depending on your city:
A1: $70-75k
A2: $75-80k
A3: $80-90k
Unfortunately, the cohort model means there is no leeway on salary. Also be ready to not get promoted to senior until mid next year or possibly the year after. You might be able to get a higher signing bonus though.
Yeah experienced associate is an umbrella term for anything above A1. It’s only used internally though and not an official title.
Have a number in mind and add 10%, there’s your number. And don’t discuss a sign-on bonus during a phone screen.
I got a signing bonus even though it was 2020.
Research what the median salary for the role is and then add 15%.
Ask them for the range they typically pay for the role.
I think 15% sounds like a good rule of thumb. I once asked for the range to a recruiter in another firm (non Big4) and was fed some “not allowed to disclose” bs. Huge 🚩
What is the cohort model?
It’s the idea that you come in as a class, like in high school or college, and you all get paid the same starting salary+signing bonus.
