What is your title? How do you know exactly how they’re billing their clients? Have you seen the invoices? If you pose this question they”ll probably say their clients pay a retainer. You say you don’t mind the rate you agreed to. You may find the job ends suddenly if you try to renegotiate midstream. Having a long gig is valuable at a time like this, so maybe you should be content knowing that.
This is the way.
Permalancer? Ok
Your bill rate for the firm isn’t directly related to your own rate. A perfect example is public accounting, staff may make $40/hr. but the client is billed at $150/hr. A Senior Manager on a huge audit could bill at $500/hr., it doesn’t mean they are paid that.
Are you at a holding company agency? Most have strict freelance hour caps for some reason. Find out when they are mandated to cut you, then renegotiate your return.
If it’s project based you can say when this project ends you want your actual rate.
If it’s ongoing you can ask but I’ve never had luck with it when it was ongoing.
Doesn’t hurt to ask though. Don’t be shy. Ask the person in HR or your CD
Your freelance. Not locked into this place. Ask for more at the next one. Most places will be like, “if you think you are worth more, then prove it by getting that some where else”
