I have! Did so after returning from maternity leave, which is very common at my firm. You can reduce by a % at my firm (for example, 90% hours expectations and 90% of your salary). I really recommend.
Good to know! My firm is very open to part time work so I'm hoping an ask to go down 10 hours a month is fine.
10-15 hours less is not a reduced hours role
Reduced hours roles are generally like 100-125/month and are usually the model for of counsel roles at the firm and non partnership track.
You are just looking to work less, which is fine (170 is extremely hard), but they are likely to say no.
Ah that makes sense. 160 is way more doable and I'm perfectly fine with whatever paycut that entails. We have our associates on different hours by year. Not big law we do ID. The first years are at 140 then go to 160 their second year. Then with every year the monthly hourly requirement goes up. Eventually I want to do 100 a month but that's a few years from now when I have kids.
I haven’t, but I know people who have. They just negotiate their hours and their salary by talking to their practice area leader/firm leadership.
155 doesn’t seem like much of a reduction tbh. Most I know on reduced
hours are lower than that (and take a commensurate pay cut)
