Has anyone here ever had to deal with working for a nightmare partner? One of the two partners at our small firm is the WORST. He makes racist jokes, inappropriate comments about clients, and makes me generally uncomfortable. His wife is our HR department, so I can't go there. Any advice?

He owns the place so all you can do is get out. And maybe be honest about why after you’ve got another job lined up.

Honestly, if the boss is the owner and wife is HR there’s no point in telling them. Just leave, and if anyone ever asks you what you thought about working there - then you can be honest

You can’t and won’t change anything if you speak up. All you can do is finding another job.

Let me know if you are interested in joining our Crowe SALT team. Please send me a DM.

Yeah I've been there. It's so hard to deal with when it's a small place. I eventually ended up quitting on the spot.

Dm me. We need good people

Analyst-level. Have to renege an offer I signed. @Partners would you prefer a candidate calls, sets a call up, or just leaves an email about it? I know it’s already bad but want to be as respectful as possible. Feels extra bad as had partner spend 45 mins answering Q&A and selling me earlier.

If my boyfriend pays me fair market value rent every month, can I claim this rental income and therefore take advantage of rental expense deductions and depreciation? If so, would expenses and repairs that apply to the home be counted at 50%? I started the construction for a rental dwelling in 2020 that will be on the same property, but won’t have paying renters until later this year. I’m hoping that by claiming his rental income for 2020 then I would also be able to capture those expenses.

Just received an internship offer for Oliver Wyman in Management Consulting.

Curious, what is the culture like in the southern offices (Atlanta, Dallas ,Houston)?

Also, I come from a First Gen. Low Income background and so any tips on how to prep for the experience would be appreciated (networking, hard skills, courses, attire etc).

Thank you in advance for your responses!

Newly in-house. Apparently, it was bad to offer my opinion that slightly differed from the managers, even though I was invited by said manager to review their suggestion with an internal client. We collectively discussed how to make a document better. I responded to an email that said "hey you and internal client - could you both see my suggestions (which differed from the clients). Internal client didn't really agree, so I said "can we add managers edits but keep some of clients edits"

What courses would you recommend (or avoid) to improve my overall management skills? I am reading books, articles and my company provides me with a career coach. Need help.. I accepted a offer from company A, for personal reason I didn’t join the company and my h1b petition was also not filed as I communicated before they could. Now due to some sort of operational error I received a pay check from company A :-). I have reached out to company A to rectify the error. What’s the tax implications as I see federal and state withholding on the check I received?

Hi folks, I had a quick question around remote work. My office is in San Francisco but I worked remotely from NJ for clients on the WC. How should I answer the question, “did you earn income working remotely by providing the services in a different state than the state you originally engaged employment with it”? If it matters, I never set foot in CA.

Maxed out Roth IRA contributions when I wasn't eligible for 2021 (got a salary bump mid year). Do I need to recharacterize? It's a very small account that's been open for only two years. That's the only IRA account I own. Do I need to open a traditional IRA and roll over 6k + realized gains into that account and keep the Roth IRA. So confused how this works and got conflicting information from Merrill.

I made a mistake in the tax filing- filed an 1099 as long term gains instead of short term gains but have attached the correct 1099 pdf with the return. Am I in trouble? Should I Wait for the IRS letter to amend/audit or proactively amend myself?

Hey Team

I'm on a H1B so I am supposed to pay Medicare and SS taxes, but my employer has not withheld anything- my hnr block advisor caught that but she just completed my returns assuming I don't have to pay those taxes

What is the right protocol in this case? Do I owe SS and fica taxes?

What research services does your firm use for US sales & use tax? I don't work in the US but in Canada, we have online access to various commentary that basically analyzes every section of (cont.)

I accepted a role in New York City but my direct manager said I can work from home in Boston instead. My understanding is that I would be paying NY taxes, but not MA taxes. Can anyone here confirm? Also, would my employer have to incur any additional taxation because I am remote? They’re a really small firm and I worry that this sort of thing could be prohibitive for them despite my manager’s approval.

I quit a small PA company to join big4 but my manager here is picky and she fixed everything that I did to her way. Now old manager asks if I want to come back if she matches the salary. What should I do? Yes I like my old manager, team and it was so comfortable back there. I don’t like big4 timesheet and the reason I left my old company because of I moved to different city. But now old company can provide wfh as well as big 4 I’m working now. Can someone give me advice?

Need some help! Currently live in TX but work as an independent contractor (remote) for a NYC based company - do I still need to pay NY state convenience tax on income or would this only apply as a full-time employee?
