Hello, wanted to get thoughts from people on here on 3 points:
1. if I have say 3 solid years of elite NY biglaw tax experience, what would my options be in terms of the big4? 2. companies normally need inhouse tax counsel or nah? 3. Lastly is it better to have broader tax experience or to specialize in something (mainly doing REIT and RE tax rn)? Appreciate the help here!

I’d apply for national tax office roles at manager+ level, then spend time at treasury/irs before boomeranging back as a direct admit partner. Revolving door is the way!

like

Feels like wnt has a lot of partners who came from biglaw, not sure how long they spent.

They all seem pretty specialized, so I’d guess specialization would be valuable, but it depends on finding a firm with a need for your specialty when you want to leave.

Search LinkedIn for your firm’s alumni at big4 to seek out conversations?

like

Specialty helps get you in if the Big 4 firm is growing in that industry. It hurts during the inevitable cyclical real estate bust. Right now seems ok.

If you have M&A experience be sure to stress that. If not maybe try to work on a couple deals before you exit. A REIT / RE person with M&A experience including UPREIT PS structures and TRA agreements is more valuable.

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

Has anyone successfully negotiated a title? I was looking for Senior Manager positions but applied for some Mgr positions too. I’m up for promo next year at my current job as well. The current industry offer meets my comp expectation but planning to see if they would bring me in as a senior manager. There isn’t a set hierarchy for the team as of right now as they are building the team and I’d be reporting to a senior executive. Any talking points/tips that might help me negotiate?

Hi all,

I am an IT professional having almost 5 years of experience and want to move to Canada for PR. My CRS score is not upto the cut off. I need someone who can help in earning connections points for Manitoba PNP program.

As it allows having an acquaintance or a friend to earn those 20 points, it can help my PR application.

Anyone who is PR and resident of Manitoba can dm me to discuss around it. I am ready to pay for this assistance as well.

When drafting a brief or other submissions for court or arbitration, do you use words such as clearly, erroneously, etc. to emphasize certain points? Our managing partner says that we should, but all of the writing guides for litigators that I've read repeats the mantra "show, don't tell" and explain that most judges dread such words.

I know that the politically correct thing to do here is to do whatever the managing partner wants me to do, but I just wanted to ask for other ppl's opinion.
