HELP. I’m having a hard time billing my minimum even lately. I have discovered that basically I have a hard time working when I’m feeling anything less than 100% (mentally or physically).

I avoid lengthy and high pressure projects like the plague and it’s put me behind months on some projects. I feel/know my *potential* and usually can hone in when I’m stressed (hyper focus), but it’s not working now. My go to reaction now is to quit since I can’t seem to cut it anymore. 😭

Agreed that you need to start working on addressing the issues through therapy or maybe meds after visiting the doc and (mental health, physical health, nutrition, sleep, routine). In the meantime, brain dump a list of things you need to get done for (<10 mins) and then rewrite that list in order of priority for that you have to get done. Plan to get 1-2 things done on that list, block out distractions for ~1.5 hours (out your phone somewhere else and ignore emails) and work the full time. Then see where you are. If you are no where near getting done, send the progress you’ve made and any questions you have to the person and let then know you are still working. Then move to the next thing. Sometimes the hardest part is getting started

like

Definitely “the hardest part is getting started”

Been there for sure.

Take that massive project and break it up into little chucks each with their own deadline (the first “chunk” being to break it up with deadlines!) Then it’s no longer a massive behemoth, it’s a bunch of little achievable tasks. That makes it less scary, helps you get started, and once you get started you get momentum…

like

The solution is you have to do it more, not less.

Start breaking down and calendaring EVERYTHING, and don’t schedule more than 8 hours worth of work on a given day. This will give you an “at a glance” view of your week.

It’s harder to put off today’s task when you’re looking at your calendar and see everything is already fully booked. Makes it obvious that you can’t actually put it off.

Honestly same. I'm trying to see if therapy/ ADHD counselling or a break might help. Good luck.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.

Hi, just wondering how the staffing situation has been in strategy consulting in general? My sibling started a job in strategy in Silicon Valley 2 months ago after MBA.
